i was 17 years old driving my dads sweet 87 v-6 firebird. and it was gonna sleet/rain that night, so my mom told me to take her saturn to work because “it goes better in the bad weather” on my way home from work a guy cut across my lane and i did a lane change to stay away from him. in the process i hydroplaned and hit on coming traffic. 45 mph southbound into 45mph northbound… all because my moms rear tires were 0/32 and i didnt know it because i never drove her car. now i scares me to death to ride on bald tires… expectially in the rain.
yeah man, i had bald tires in the back of my car, went around a bend in the rain and my car didnt stop turning, i counter steered, and i was sliding sideways into oncomming traffic
thankfully im not an idiot and i was able to get control of the car without spinning it or hitting the traffic
i drove home doing like 10mph below the speed limit, scared me to death
try ET streets in the rain 
bias ply and no tread = omg 15mph
and for those that do run DOT legal slicks and such on the street, keep an eye on the tire pressure. My buddy totaled his car when a tire popped off the rim from too low pressure…damn shame that car was nassssty!
too many people buy cars that they can’t afford tires for… its sad to see that happen but its disturbingly common.
bald tires are no fun…when i had the neon and was starting a new job i had barely enough money at the time to get tires(i refuse to ask my parents for cash) and it was raining…i was in a bit of a hurry for work with with a bald drivers side rear…went to merge onto the parkway going to monroeville from the wilkinsburg ramp and ended up doing a 180 merge into already moving traffic…now THAT…is some scary shit
…and people will still ignore the fact they need tires and keep rolling on them.
