ok so i got an 89 325 iX im replaceing the center bearing and a brake line right now what is the other stuff i should replace right away? can any1 help me out if they got any experience with em
I have no idea about the maintenance, but  to AWD.
 to BMW AWD. Horrible system. However, e30’s dont require much maitenance to keep them running, so it’s definitely a good daily. Just change your fluids/filters and run it.
alright but i like my car it was the best thing i coulda bought at the time lol and i got it for a good deal plus i love lancer’s this is like a cheap verison lol im gunna get a lancer’s in a few years when i can afford it lol
that what i thought lol
I am curious to hear why the AWD system on an e30 is bad. I have heard a lot of good things about iXs, at least dynamically. Infact I have heard that the iX is a better AWD system than the system in my relic.
i hadn’t heard anytihng bad about them till now lol :gotme:
The E30 ix was bad because the transfer cases used to blow up alot. They also had a tendancy to strip the front drive shaft splines. Both expensive fixes. Other than that it is a very solid car just like any other E30.
I am waiting to hear as well. Mike is usually spot on with his opinion or information, so I am sure there will be a good explanation.
you should replace the car right away. give the ix to someone more needy… and if you dont get rid of it you should swap an ls1 in there.
yea ok dirty lol yur just mad i bought it before u
lol thats probably not a good thing to tell Mike.
As far as maintence goes all I can tell you is be careful when doing a break job and loosening the brake caliper bolts and the caliper bracket bolts.
For the love of god… NO!
rofl exactly what I was thinking.
Sort of related: Is actually possible to disconnect the fwd part of the awd? Say by taking out the shafts? Such as if you had the car, and the fwd was the thing that was keeping it from being road worthy -just so you could run it in rwd.
that would be foolish. besides the foolishness of the technical aspect, rwd e30s are everywhere, 325ix’s are not.
replace the timing belt if you haven’t already they need to be done every 60k and they are touchy, and will snap. and your valves will hit your pistons.
and do your water pump when you do that
besides that its just obvious shit. fix whatever leaks. while you’re doing the center support bearing check the guibos, change tranny and diff fluids (use redline) etc.
I have 2 e30s… Have put over 15,000 miles on each with little to no maintenance. Changed clutch at 119K. The other has 215,000+ miles and runs like a champ. I wouldn’t recommend anything other than ensuring your drivetrain fluids are full/fresh. Also, inspect the cv boots while you’re doing the brakes and make sure they are not torn/cracked. Just visually inspect underneath the car and use common sense if you need to replace anything… that has worked best for me and e30s.
sweet thats the stuff dirty told me but i wasn’t real sure and now he’s in canada
