I have ebay coilovers and corner lights, big deal. ran out of money and was not riding on stock suspension although it probably would’ve been a better ride :runaway
Most “cross drilled” rotors are not designed well. The holes are drilled straight through and in some cases not even chamfered to reduce the stress concentration created by the geometry of the hole itself. Chamfers can reduce the stress concentration, but basically these are often drilled too large (thereby reducing effective surface area of rotor itself) anyways.
Swiss cheese rotors = Less surface area = worse heat dissipation = higher operating temperatures, which is not really a good thing, unless you like flames coming out from the fenderwell after repeated hard braking… That’s an exaggeration but you get the idea…
The only “cross drilled” rotors worth putting on a car are rotors with the holes cast in- and rotors with the holes made as small as possible to minimize the reduction in surface area. So basically, Porsche rotors…
I went to NAPA and picked up a set of replacement rotors from them, no drilling no slotting just plain rotors. Apparently these are what the Spec guys run, so if it’s good enough for people going wheel to wheel it’s sure as hell gonna be good enough for street.
so true. i had custom bevel edge “awe” style tips and i was on my way back from school and as i pulled up to the light i heard a big screeching noisy sound and the tips went right in front of the car… at least i saved them, went back to pete’s, demanded new tips, and i got them. they are now sitting in my shed. the tips are nice but the welding was poooorrr.
Thanks for the info, thats good to know. I went to Advance Auto a few hours ago and the guy told me that they sell blanks for $36 each. I’m really tempted to splurge on Brembos now, my rotors are warped since I ran over a big puddle on Western a while back.
Would upgrading only my front rotors be a good idea? Z1 sells a “BBK” which is essentially just larger front rotors which utilize the stock calipers.
It depends on your plans for use. Most of the time upgraded front rotors may be all you would want to change. Most of the stopping power of a car is transferred to the front rotors anyway.
The Z is just a DD, never ran Auto-X or anything like that.
The only complaint I have about cheap rotors is that they rust in 5 seconds. Not really a concern for racecars but i’m talking about the guys on the street. Some of the nicer oem and aftermarket ones are coated or have a high heat paint on the hat to keep oxidation to a minimum. Once the hub or backside of the rotor gets rusty it will have runout and begin to shimmy. Cheap chinese brake pads from napa, advanced auto and pep boys tend to fit poorly and leave deposits on rotors…once again causing a shimmy. People without a lot of experience may not be able to tell what brand parts are good quality or exactly what to look for. Trust me, once you get used to good parts its hard to accept subpar replacements because of an attractive price.
:crackup :crackup
I’m going with a complete kit from Brembo. Rotors, pads, brake fluid, speed bleeders and SS lines.
I really don’t wanna half ass it and have to buy new parts again in a few months.
:nod
lol
I’ve spent about a grand on this car since I’ve put it up for sale. Whoever buys the Z is getting alot of new parts.lol
stop buying parts for it and buy a 90-96 TT Z.
AWD Turbo is where its at for me bro. The Z was incredibly fun but I need a newer car now.
btw, you ever ask that kid about selling me the cig. ighter off his Z?
im just gunna take it, im going over in the next couple days to grab 5 lug stuff :banana and a pignose lip (240) until my body kit comes
lol.
If you do get it, I need the actual lighter part with the metal clips that plugs in to the wiring. Let me know how much you want for it.
3.7 million and 4 asian virgins 18+ with only hair on there head and eyebrows please.
FREEEEEEE,ill just take it. he wont know anyways, hes going to be getting rid of it soon anyways
lol
Let me know, I miss being able to listen to my ipod in the Z. And actually being able to charge shit. :headbang
i know your car is heavier… but i use brembo blanks, and hawk pads. car stops real good… ask travis :lol, even when i do 4 or 5 consecutive 130-0’s
from what I experienced, cross drilled Zimmerman’s are damn nice when it comes to performance, tested them in a heavy mercedes and a 740il …
so maybe the talk about low performance cross drilled rotors are because of no name brand crap ?
Do a search for modified magazines article on ebay knockoff parts it was very interesting.
