Forgot to comment on this one…those numbers are what my car runs with a mild H/C/I set up…NO NITROUS…3400lbs. raceweight…and in a combo I put together about 8 years ago while on a college kid budget. So, like Jesse mentioned, no offense to your friend but those times are pretty weak for what’s done to the car.
The 98 cobra had 305/300, the SS had something like 320. So 15 more horsepower from that extra… 1.1 litres. OoooOOOOOOooooo
Or compare an 03 cobra to an 03 TA.
Oh wait…
I know, below the belt.
your twisting around what i said to make me look like an asshole, but thats ok. What i ment is that current technology is impressive. My car was RATED at 305hp and the new Acura TL is rated at the same thing  I was just making a general statement. The LS1 is supposedly “old” technology as well, pushrods! gasp!.. and look what the LS7 Z06 does, runs with cars 3x its price, not to mention what the ZR1 does… and i disagree with you… Find me a local STOCK displacement 5.0 thats NA that runs with a car similar to mine… not going to happen, at least not “easily”. Power adders are needed.
Fucking Christ…I’m not talking about the POS 2valves…I’m talking about the old pushrod 5.0. It’s a known fact that that era of Mustang was horrible from a performance standpoint…
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Again, using the argument that Ls1 F bods are not made anymore, completely irrelevant.
We’re saying similar things…I’m a big fan of the LS line of engines, no doubt! I’m also a fan of the pushrods:)
NA, what does your car run?
LS1 has been around since 97?
The MachV mustang was supposed to keep up with LS1s…doesn’t
The only car that runs similar stock for stock times is the Cobra…
This is a never end debate…
Ford simply doesn’t make a good NA motor…
12.0 @ 118 with a 1.9 short time
EDIT that was with a 7.9 1/8th
one day i was consistently 7.6-7.7 @ lancaster with 1.7 and 1.8 short times, so we will see what 09 brings
Lol. Edited my other comment to include power from both cars in 98. You guys still only managed to extract an extra 15 horses from a whole extra liter.
I knew you would walk into that…
wasn’t 1998 the year Ford fucked up and had a recall because the car had an overrated power rating
had to take it back to the dealer for better intakes and other crap
I have a friend with a bolt on 1998 cobra that can’t break out of the 13s ![]()
That was 99. They were rated at 320 but only actually produced 305. 2001 rolled around and they were back up to 320.
We know this…why do you keep bringing up the obvious that in stock form Ford engines aren’t very powerful? I’ve been saying this throughout the whole thread…
Quick, but not that impressive since I’ve seen bolt on 5 liter foxes do that 10 years ago:)
This started because Wookie said he would build a 40X CID mustang to race LS1s(implying stock CID) with…which is sad.
I mean he only gets 420rwhp out of a boosted 302  there are NA cam only LS1s on this board that made more RWHP then that
OMG, I feel like we’re on car and driver television here,
The LS1 is a faster stock engine.
The 5.0L mustang motors are cheaper to modify than the 4.6L or the LS1.
:suicide:
I wonder what Wookie would need to run to have a fair race with you???
Big block with dual power adders?
you have seen bolt on 5.0L foxes run in the 11’s at 118-120mph? hmm… i going to venture a guess here and say that they didnt weigh 3,750lbs ![]()
So yeah winter drama yay… Is anyone going to be out this year? I want some friendly 40 rolls from some stangs, power adder to power adder
hmm time to start looking for a cheap 5.0 to make into an 11 sec track whore…
You’re guess is correct…they were more around the 3300-3400lbs. race weight.
I left my car in storage all of last year since my garage and time were spent with my dad’s 55 Chevy project. Now that that’s pretty much done I plan to drive my car this summer, and hopefully can up the cubes to 346 so I can be fast:eekdance: JK…just stirring the pot here:)
umm proof to these cars? 3300-3400 no way im calling BS…well depending what you consider bolt ons i guess… my idea of bolt ons is headers, midpipe catback, CAI etc etc… i dont see you taking a HIGH 14 sec maybe even low 15 sec car and dropping it down into the 11’s and picking up nearly 30mph with some “bolt ons” I guess you can “bolt on” a supercharger, heads, nitrous…
