egr system

just making sure - i checked my fsm and it didn’t really explain it for me but i did get a general idea.

exhaust - curved pipe - egr valve - intake

i’ve been having some overheating going on lately and my egr valve isn’t complete so its time to do the last step in my neverending quest to return this engine to stock and end the overheating… i didn’t have the materials after my swap to finish it… but now i need to get it done because the mighty old e-test is coming up…

thanks people!

2nd question: how much difference will an operating egr valve make for emissions?? my engine is in great shape and when i go for the e-test, i’ll have my oil changed a day or two before and i’ll add the ‘guaranteed pass’ stuff… am i in trouble or will i get away with plugging the egr valve?

as long as the cat converter is good, you’ll have no problems passing the emmissions without the egr

i did my e-test with the egr bypassed, doesn’t affect it at all if any

egr only works when cruising… and depending on the car sometimes at idle too

depending on the “technician” they might or might not activate the egr on the rollers

I guarantee the biggest single reason for failing e-test is the guy doing the testing… they can pass or fail you at whim, or if they are incompetent then it’ll be random

I was guaranteed to fail my etest if I kept my ERG valve plugged/disconnected.

COuld be BS, but i doubt it.

And ya, a lot has to do with the guy doing the test for you. He could warm up your car just before it or not. IE; does he care or not for you to pass.

so doing an etest on a cold engine is a good idea?

not at all. Warm itbefore doing the test. Some of them wont do you the favor and will just do the test right away.

ahhh ok. well my plan is to change the oil and go for a long drive before i get the test done so i’m sure it’ll be warm enough.

thanks guys
