EGR necessary?

hey we have old 20 year old cars that doesnt need to pass e test no more.

i was just wondering what the EGR actually does other then reducing engine temp by recirculating some of tha exhaust gas back into the engine, and reducing tha Knox.

would the car have more performance if this is removed? and has anyone here done this?

plus how do u reroute tha vacuum lines after all this is done if it gives performance or something.

people say you get a performance boost without the egr, and it greatly simplifies things…

without the egr you only need a couple of vac lines (there are diagrams everywhere, and you can use the diagram for any car without egr)

Remove egr usual cause a hiccup, usual under cold conditions. Emission laws have changed. All 240 will be doing E-test aslong as there on the road. The 20 year old law applys to 88 and earlier now.

lol the two cars im duin this on is a 87 MR2 ( jus under 20 years old… but not goin to be on tha road till next year)

and a 86 300zx turbo.

No you don’t have to etest the cars, but you can still get nailed for removing your emissions stuff.

As far as I know, the law is pretty straight forward. The car must retain whatever emissions devices it was equipped with.

But you’re not likely to gain any performance, unless the EGR was boinked up to begin with.

To do it properly, you have to remove the actual EGR system and fab a block off plate for the back of the motor. There’s also the EGR solenoid, and about 30 feet of vacuum lines.

You can either just plug the vacuum lines, or trace them back and remove them all together.

It does clean up the engine bay nicely.
