Hey guys, I just bought a new 240 and I’m thinking of removing some of the emissions equipment to clean up the engine bay. I’ve read threads on ka-t.org and nicoclub.com showing how to do it and what to remove. Apparently most of the time its not working anyway on a 17 year old car.
I want to know if anyone has experience with removing this stuff and having issues e-testing? The car needs some work done over the winter to safety/e-test so I’m going to work on it all winter in my garage then get it on the road around april. I don’t want to remove stuff now to find out in April that I needed it to pass emissions.
This is my first car and my parents aren’t sure so I’m asking you guys.
And before I get told to wait and see, then remove it… I’m dying for some work to do on this and I want the bay to be as clean and uncluttered as is functionally possible.
you can clean out your AIV, it’s there to help emissions and it will most likely be in need of cleaning. so that could be a start to helping your car pass safety and emissions.
but do I have to have all the original emissions equipment hooked up? I want to take it out to clean the bay up. I can’t stand how messy and cramped it looks.
Does it change anything if the car is over 15 years old? or are the emissions standards the same?
you dont need a function EGR to pass emissions. My car passed emissions with flying colours without an EGR. An egr does not do too much, it lowers ur NOx emissions, but my car still passed
my two cents…if u want a clean bay take it out, if u dont really care, and want ur car to have everything it should then keep it
my s13 with 178k on it passed with no PAIR valve, a hacked egr tube, a 3 month old magnaflow cat, and it running super lean on premium fuel… i say if you want to try it, then try it but keep everything intact so you can put it back on if you fail…
