5, 13, & 20 are my favs
marshall mathers LP>>>>>>>>>>>*
“stan” is one of my favorite songs of all time
infinite and slim shady lp are my fav albums by far
figures
wat?
greatest rap album of all time in my book:
Illmatic is a serious album, “Life’s A B%tch” and “It Ain’t Hard to Tell” are a couple of my favorites. DJ Premier’s production worked really well with Nas’ flow, and Nas’ lyricism just took things to a whole new level.
As for Eminem, he is a phenomenal artist but I just don’t like some of the things we writes about. On the other hand, a couple of his songs (“When I’m Gone” comes to mind) really make it obvious how much talent he has.
I personally like Dre’s delivery, he’s one of the better producers who can get on the mic. As for lyricism he won’t win any prizes, but a lot of his rhymes are ghost-written anyways, so it’s not him there. I really like Dre’s part in “Bodyguard”, the diss track on Ja Rule with Eminem and Obie Trice. I don’t know if he wrote that himself, but it almost makes me fall off the treadmill every time trying to prevent from cracking up and going “oh snap”.
Big L is one rapper I really like and I have almost all of his tracks. Granted some of them are very dark and disturbing which I don’t like but man, on the freestyle tip I don’t know if anyone living or dead can hang with him. Even the “popular” tracks he had like MVP, Platinum Plus, Put It On really showcase his lyrical ability without seeming like “sellout” hits…
There’s a 7 or 9 minute freestyle online with Big L and Jay Z just going back and forth, and Jay Z literally runs out of $hit to say and he’s like “I’m out I’m out” and L just picks up and keeps rhyming, totally makes Jay look like a sucka (even though it was not a battle, it seemed more like the two bugging out).
This was from back when Jay Z rhymed like Fu-Schnickens so some of his flow was kinda funny (yeah I know saying Fu-Schnickens dates me). (If you want to find a sample of Jay Z before he actually blew up before Reasonable Doubt, go look for the song “Show and Prove” and listen to his funny flow hehe. Shoot, if you can name any two of the other obscure rappers in that video you should get a prize). Another good example: Da Graveyard with Jay Z and Big L, oh man, they rip the track apart (along with Lord Finesse).
Anyways, just makes me think, if Jay was rhyming that wack before and has transformed into the artist he is now… What could Big L have done? It’s too bad he’s gone.
Lastly, Big Daddy Kane is an old school pimp yeah but he deserves attention… Some of his raps just make me crack up and bust out laughing, not to mention he’s pretty good on the witty metaphorical tip. These are the types of songs I like for the most part. The fact that he was always wearing a tacky a$$ outfit and surrounded by ladies in every album cover was just a bonus. “Ain’t No Half Steppin’” is one of my all time favorites.
^you’re nuts, archie :rofl :rofl
Tupac>(insert rapper here)
The early/mid 90’s stuff is the best anyway.
- 1 even in his comedy you need to read between the lines and understand what he is saying for real, then you will be like WHOA its amazing how he was able to sneak such a message through a goofy song on the radio, there would be no way to get away with that directly coming out and saying some of the stuff he jokes about
yea I might of said earlier it was delayed for 9 years sorry, i meant to say its been hyped up for about 9 years now, since 2000…
lupe is amazing for sure, common and mos def are very very good as well i love mos def’s style and voice its really nice !
I feel the same way almost about kanye, but the reason why i dont like him now it seems hes too high on his chair. The fact that we has gone into a different genre does not bother me much because i know he is an artist and he is trying to do something original, and hes doing it because he feels it… thats a great thing but i do not like the over use of auto tune hes killing it, antares much be rich off kanye alone
yea man, his first two albums, are retarded good… lyrically nuts man, real pro shit…
stan was a great song because its one of the few that made it to the top of the charts got air time on FM and tv and showed alot of people who think they “listen to rap” that he was more than just a goofy dude with dirty jokes and actually had some serious skill
archie i agree with alot of what you wrote here… however its very clear that you havent listened to em’s shit enough, if you think of “when im gone” as an example of his great work then there is alot more you should hear from him IMO. When im gone was a great song and made out very well but there is so many songs from him that REALLY show his skills and emotions off better
and yea dre’s shit is OBVIOUSLY ghost written by royce da 5 9 (royce nickel nine :lol ), 50 cent, possibly jada and maybe jay z and eminem heavilyyyyy co writes if not ghost writes alot his shit especially on records he gets on with em, but its all good the more things someone can do and have any success at, the better… u can’t knock em for that
LOL tupac is cool, he had ALOT of schooling prior to his career in rap, performing arts and being in some other crew dancing etc etc , the dude really made shit happen, his music IMO is great lyrically and the shit he talks about in interviews is genius so hes really amazing
BUT i still put eminem on the top of my list because of what he was able to do with everything against him , from people hating him to loving him etc etc he could of been another vanilla ice but he wasnt and his album sales and how many other rappers talk about and respect him really shows for it…
talking about that i wonder if hes going to take up juelz request to feature on his song with wayne im gonna guess not because of the wayne issue with g unit
infinite was sick for sure, for what it was / is… obviously budget was low and he was still forming his style in what he is today but yea its sooo good i listen to it alot
Gillie is the king of Philly.
gillie is a fuckin joke LOL hes jealous about wayne, and he boasts about writing waynes lyrics, and thinks wayne owes his late success to gillie… when his recent success has only come from carter III, an album gillie hasnt even touched… so really gillie is bragging about ghost writing waynes lyrics on his old albums, which were lyrically HORRIBLE, the solo songs he has done in the past are really really bad…
so for that gillie sucks, if he could stop being a hater, and focus on his own career and not be so obvious with his jealously for waynes success maybe he too can become successful !
but nah the dudes in the street holdin shit down LOL
i like some of his material dont get me wrong
and papoose ! some of his material is NUTS ! but in some songs i dont like him cuz he is always fucking pissed off
I love the new album, listen to it alot,My fav. songs are; Same song and dance, Must be the ganja, Stay wide awake, medicine ball and we made u:thumbup
love the chorus for the ganja song ! hello had a good chorus also
same song and dance was cool, its a bit rough :lol
You’re absolutely right- I never bought any of his albums.
I would appreciate it if you could hit me with a list of songs to check out that showcase Eminem’s depth. I’d definitely check them out.
yea def, im gonna give u some more of the serious songs …
lets get started (find these on yutbe and i would give u direct links but being on this india net i dont have the ability to effectively surf youtube this many times and expect to get done tonight)
in NO order at all, just as i remember them…
Monkey See Monkey Do (diss track, but he goes hard, and solo)
Marshall Mathers (from the marshall mathers LP)
Yellow Brick Road ( tells about his experience growing up )
Rock Bottom ( good song about being broke as fuck and the frustration it comes with )
No Apologies ( off his compliation “the re up” , really good short but good song )
Never Enough ( off encore album, his first verse is really good and explains how most people think hes crazy for the shit he puts out on records)
Spend Some Time ( its with obie, 50, and stat quo also but… his verse (hes second in the song) is SICK, along with the other rappers, and he does a cool singing chorus and bridge )
Sing For the Moment (a bit too mainstream, as in successful for this list, but his message and lyrics are fuckin legit)
Encore (off encore album, his verse(s) overall are on point)
Soldier ( off The Eminem Show, just over all sick and clear lyrics / flow )
Till I Collapse ( nuts verse in this, i think 50 and obie are on it too )
White America (the chorus is a bit rough, and the over mood is rough so u migt not like it, but when he gets into his verse he says some really legit shit that will impress you )
More shit, drama setter ( chorus is great cuz he does it, yayo was WAY to weak in this song so it killled it, but em does the chorus so sick it was still a good song even tho the verses are crap )
Toy Soldiers ( was mainstream big time, but has great content )
RABBIT RUN cant believe i forgot this, u should listen to this song first its off the fucking chain
oh yea 8 mile (the song) and loose yourself (way too mainstream but for a reason, its a good song) , and obviously stan was a good song mainly cuz he wrote the song somewhat based off the beef with canibus he had, so the fact the song was somewhat based off of something that actually happened to him was really cool, canibus was writing him letters the same way, starting off as being a normal fan and eventually turning physcotic because eminem wouldnt answer him in time…
Off his new album (relapse)… check Beautiful… i listen to it constantly at this time
Ok so i took mad typing timefor u, u better go check some of these
Will be checking these on iTunes Singh, appreciate it. :thumbsup
Yah dude, papoose is nuts. Love his underground freestyles for sure. I heard some talk a few months back that Eminem was looking to sign papoose but he declined and wanted to do his own thing…not sure why he did that. Eminem would have made him bigger then he is
Its funny…whenever I talk to die hard rock guys…their always bashing on rap how it takes no skills to do etc compared to Rock with all the notes and stuff they hafto do on the guitar and stuff and then you ask them if they like eminem and 9 times out of 10 they say yes
My mom and dad even love him…and my dad hates rap lol
AWWWwwWWW shit. how’d i miss thie thread. HHHMMMmMMmmMM
i love z m&m’s too!! my favorite r the peanutbutter one’s:excited
oppps the other eminem u guy’s suck never mind:ponder:Idiots
:rofl
