Actually I have never seen my dad this stressed, probably because he doesn’t like me living so far away and doesn’t want me driving my car if it’s been fixed by a shitty mechanic… poor guy!

She’s my 8th cousin. its legal in W. Virginia :kekegay:
^ wooot! lol
It would have been easier to name what you don’t work on, namely domestics :mullet:
so here is the latest, the mechanic gave it a valve adjustment, and nada. Then he tells me there is a tear in the timing belt (which I had put a new one in last month). So It’s now with Acura and hopefully i will hear something this afternoon.
The mechanic did tell me he checked the spark plugs, wires and ignition and it wasn’t any of the above. The code he got was a P0303.
http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/generic/p0303-cylinder-3-misfire-detected.php
that sucks because i log misfires daily and drive my car…
A code P0303 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
* Faulty spark plug or wire
* Faulty coil (pack)
* Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
* Faulty fuel injector
* Burned exhaust valve
* Faulty catalytic converter(s)
* Running out of fuel
* Poor compression
* Defective computer
well that is interesting b/c my car was low on fuel, we all know my issues with the cat. I did have a bad spark plug and I am pretty sure I have a burned exhaust valve… niiiice…
exactly… all i’m saying is that you can still drive on misfires… so the code is obsolete… if your car isn’t driving something is goofed… if it’s just a cel then i might not worry as much.
^ yeah it’s drivable, but very shaky when idoling, like it’s about to stall…
its a Honda they never die, wait a minute let me rephrase “a stock Honda”
Ok first off if you have a rip in your timing belt you need it relaced it will break and then you will be screwed. If you had a bad spark plug replace it then check to see if that fixed the problem. What do you mean “we all know my issues with the cat”? If you have a bad catalytic converter that needs replaced too. Also, why do you think you have a burnt exhaust valve, who told you that? By the way being low on fuel has nothing to do with any of your problems. You have to fix the cheap easy stuff first then if that doesn’t do it then change the big exspensive stuff. How many miles are on your car? Also, don’t be driving your car around you are just going to screw it up more. The light is blinking for a reason it’s telling you hey stop driving me I need fixed.
well a misfire isn’t causing a blinking light… so something’s up… a misfire should be a solid light.
Wrong, a severe misfire causes a blinking CEL. A solid CEL means it’s emission realted. Are you a mechanic?
well i’m not a mechanic, but i have misfires and a solid cel… would you like to come check them out?
Sure I charge $50.00 an hour. How old is your car we are talking about?
well being that we’re talking about obd2 i’d say it’s newer than 95… ;)anyway… don’t pollute her thread… you can PM or start another if you’d like.
i agree, don’t drive on a blinking cel

A severe misfire is not the problem, there’s something causing the severe misfire that’s the problem. I am trying to help her fix her problem not argue pointless facts with you. You aren’t a mechanic, I am, so quit trying to argue you won’t win. Oh yeah, it’s 96 and newer for OBDII. :rolleyes:
damn broad enough?
The best part about taking it to the dealership, in my case, VW has VW/Audi specific computer tools and specific codes that specify the cylinder that is misfiring. This tool proved very useful in diagnosing my misfire problem. Generic OBD2 codes help but in a case like this where the problem could be originating at a number of different places, assuming everything passes visual inspection, process of elimination may be a costly venture. 02 sensors and ECU’s aren’t cheap but then again, neither is the stealership.
