Looking into getting a few Carbide burs. I have not clue which ones to get.
I know a few things:
I need a 1/4 shank
would like a Double cut
I’m looking up from my suppliers and I can get alot of different kinds of burs, most are only like a 1/2 cutter length. I think im going to want at least a 1 inch cutter length.
and its hard to find long shank burs. most are around 2-3 total length.
but that might be fine since all im doing is gasket matching this head at the moment.
throw me up some part numbers or something if you got them or let me know if I’ll be alright with only a 1/2 cut to a 1inch.thanks
First find yourself a flexible extension, it’ll make some areas (like deshrouding / transitioning) far easier. Are you sure you know where to port and shape? Depending on WHERE you remove material you can actually lose power.
im not porting it, I just want to gasket match the intake side of the head since Im having a custom box intake manifold made for me and he is also gasket matching it.
when i port it I’ll just send it out to AMM Fabrications
Oh, OK…then ruff stuf carries what you need. If you just need to do a quick, non super precise job. Harbor freight sells a burr bit kit (comes with five or 6 diff bits), and low-grit sanding drums that I have used in the past, for that very purpose.
all i use for heads are abrasive rolls and tapers. unless you’re trying to remove large chunks of material then you don’t really need carbide cutting bits
i just went out to harbor freight tonight and picked up 2 more boxes of rolls and tapers. I’m almost done with one of the L67 heads i’m working on (iron). it’s time consuming but it’s worth every penny of my time. I’ll be porting another blower case here shortly, seeing maybe if i can improve upon my last one and hog the intake out to take a 78mm throttlebody
