All those cars look horrible.
Take your 7K and then take out a 8K loan and drive a real car.

well since you posted that… if you cant tell he wants something a bit reliable and apparently wants fwd economy…
yeah. im 17. i can’t take out an 8k loan. not in the cards. and i like imports. but that is a sweet car
buy a beater eg for 2k, put the rest in the bank or invest it.
you will thank me later
Yeah, take out a loan, and buy a tank…on the plus side you could do hairy burnouts!
GTO >>>>>>> shitty minivan civic. And it’s an import. But since it’s not in the picture I vote ABC. Anything but the ugly civic.
this is actually a great idea. Save your cash, buy something reliable and save your cash. Then when you’re a bit older you won’t be kicking your own ass for spending all of your money on something you end up absolutely hating.
Hell, even something like this would last you many years if you took care of it and didn’t beat the shit out of it daily.

qft, been there done that.
and that civic is just about perfect. plus insurance will be cheaper too.
did you ever drive the car? that usually tells all. if you like it,then who care what other people thinks. getting a older civic will usually result in it getting stolen/ pulled over if your not carefull.
id say spend 2k on a down payment on one and tell mom to co sign the rest. bank the other 5k.
thats just me though/
possibility. thanks for the ideas guys. big help. Jacktheripper, haha yea i dont think im gonna take out a loan to buy a tank. especially somewhere where there is snow on the ground for half the year. JOE i dont know about that. Burnt_toast thanks i didn’t even see that civic. its actually kind of nice for the price and its a possibility. and Laymone i dont think loans are gonna work out for me. thanks though. and no i didn’t drive the car yet. i might go take a look at it though.
i like them and are nice if they are done right, I am likeing hatches more and more. I am thinking about picking one of these up if I can get one with low miles on it.
I log in tonight and find this thread on top. Good timing.
I’m an ‘03 NHB EP3er chiming in here. I purchased the car at 18 thinking, “Oh hey! I love SIs and I fucking love hatchbacks!” This turned into an initial $20,000-what-was-I-thinking!? From day one until now I never thought the car was a GREAT looker, but what’s cool (based on looks) wasn’t and isn’t important to me. Still, I think it’s a neat little hatch looks wise. The car is a blast to drive around town in. It’s a wonderful point A to B car, but it’s slow as balls. I did purchase it knowing it would be the perfect daily driver for my needs, however (back then) I also thought I could make it fast. Ha!
I bought the car with eight miles on it and anyone who knows me will confirm that I baby this car like you wouldn’t believe. Knowing that, I’m currently pushing 70,000mi and I’ve had more than my share of issues with this car. Keep in mind that I keep up with maintenance way more than Honda requires… I have replaced CV joints, brakes (three times), wheel bearings (twice), struts, VTC actuator, SRS sensors, clutch, slave cylinder, relays, shift linkage, numerous fuses, headlamps (three times), a power window motor, and the motor. Yep, I replaced the motor. It was right around 45,000mi that the motor grenaded at 2,000RPM while backing out of a parking space. They tell me it was a fluke, but whatever. If it wasn’t my DD I would have dropped an A2 or A1 (with a six speed) into it at the time of the incident. But I needed it right away and just threw another A3 out of an RSX with 30k on the clock. By the way, this all happened just after the warranty expired. Honda reliability what!?
All said and done, I fucking love this ugly piece of shit. The problems I’ve had with this fat pig are not likely. That’s just how my luck goes. It’s a great DD when it’s not being a selfish attention whore. But when she is behaving, she’s a wonderful car.
That is all. I hope this helps.
I <3 your ep3
This pretty much sums it up. I was out having a riot in his 10sec LS1 M6, while he was having fun in my 15 sec EP. It’s a ‘fun,’ slow car.
<3
Trade cars tomorrow?
LOL.
(jump on IM)
fbrendan, thanks for the input. i think im gonna take a look at it. and i don’t care if it kind of slow. its a stock civic. im not expecting to run 9s in the quarter. i just want a nice reliable car. im also looking at a del sol now possibly. better choice? its verrrrrrry clean
I’ve never had any issues with my ls1s. I don’t think too many people have had issues with them. Plus with the M6 you can get 25+ mpg on the highway.
I just would hate to see a kid by a civic, dump a ton of money into it, and have an unreliable, slow car that he can’t even get any money out of.
If you need a reliable DD that you can’t work on buy something newer and leave it stock. Any econo box will really do, heck you might be better off buying a cheap domestic DD like a focus or cobalt.

thanks for the links. the 2005 civic Si is an EP3 btw. and domestics are just so so to me. id buy a focus (if it was an RS). i have really been thinking about subarus though. very practical cars. working on it and stuff isnt a problem for me. as long as its nothing major i can probably do it. and if it is, i know plenty of people who could help me. im not in a huggge rush to get a car. so hopefully something will come up.
it has to do with the suspension…
the “desirable” (88-1999 1/2) models had the double wishbone with macpherson struts on 4 corners…
the civic (ep3) does not, and for the engine it boasts its slowwwww
EDIT: if the civic idea turns you off DO NOT EVER BUY A DOMESTIC ECONOMY CAR. i personally turn wrenches every day for 8 hours a day 6 days a week at a shop that fixes everything, and i cant tell you how many cobalts/cavis/neons/focus/etc that i see for major work before 100k. ALMOST all import economy cars i see have well over 100k before anything major (major is over $600 in work)
i hope you take my advice =)
