Ever have a bad key turnover for a rental?

Did you find out who painted it and what they said about it (painter) ? There telling you BS and sound like they don’t really care. A few different things could be going on.

  1. The place is going down hill and don’t care. Hired the cheapest sub they can find. I’ve heard rental places tell painters to “just roll the walls quick, dont cut anything”. If they don’t want to pay to take all the doors, cut everything, and electric covers there not going to get it.
  2. The old shit could have still been there in their way, ofter people just leave there junk behind. The sub painter, floor guy, cleaner is not gona move and clean. Its still up to them the check the sub work, and get it ready for you to move into.
  3. They had their guy do it he did some more shitty work.

Either way less then 24hrs to repaint everything like that said, and had it re-cleaned Is BS, its gona be half ass and hoping you just deal with it. Your not in the wrong, you should have them walk thu it with you again for sure.
What did they say about the old shit still there? If there not going to make the unit right, and reimburse you for the trouble of the lost week, and garage plus a discount don’t take the keys.

Good lord you’re special. This is your “high end” rental right? Why the hell would you accept it if there’s something wrong that you would get charged for when you give it back?

Best of luck with this BS. hope he doesnt turn out being a pain in the ass to get things done if you ever have issues later on.

Both the new tenant and landlord sound like real nightmares.

This place sounds ghetto, there has been less work for me BUYING houses than this rental. Find a new place with different management, maybe someone who cares.

buy a house, it sounds easier

you are nuts if you dont walk away! I know how it feels to be eager to move in to somewhere after all the planing, but i would run from this.

WTF? So his 2 other signings are important enough for him to make the time? What was his excuse the 1st time again? Weren’t you important enough the 1st time either? He has enough time for you to come get the keys but not to bring you the keys and ease your concerns? MAYBE MAYBE I could see the 1st time assuming it was all good, but after an issue like you had he needs to MAKE time. Sounds like a POS landlord, likely to lead to unaddressed issues and games getting your deposit back at the end. I’d bail as others have suggested IMO.

Leave if you can. Might be the easiest in the long run.

If you decide to stay and it still looks like shit, do all of the work yourself and deduct it from the rent. I did this when I moved in a shit hole in UB south and it worked. It also gives you a record showing that you were unhappy if anything hits the fan down the road.

I was reading this thread looking for a post from you saying: quit being poor or something of the like.

In the end, he ended up blowing off his lease signing and showed up for the walk through. Everything that was discussed the first day was fixed, including the paint. They repainted everything and did it the correct way this time. They had a professional paint team come in as well as a professional carpet repair person to come fix the carpeting. it now looks great all-around.

He was extremely apologetic and you could tell he was embarrassed at the Wednesday key turn-over. He didn’t rush with his own manager-tenant walk through, and wrote down everything that is wrong/could be construed as damage. I took a ton of pictures of everything and am now going through just cleaning up the place since it’s not totally clean in every corner (as to be expected…)

In the end, I’m glad that everything turned out well. I have the keys now and walking around, NOW it looks great. They even cut a week off of my rent this month as an apology.

Thanks for all of the “damn, that sucks” guys. Well, most of you at least. Some are just “haters gonna hate.” around here. I’m glad I have never met you…
