This came through my email, and it looks pretty cool. I assume there are many on here looking for entry level positions who would probably meet the necessary requirements…

Duties
As a Canal Structure Operator, during an assigned shift, you would maintain and operate canal structures and equipment to permit passage of lock and lift bridge traffic and to regulate water level and flow. In addition, you would be responsible for checking for seepage and navigational hazards and for preventing trespassing and vandalism. You would also perform activities in support of the collection of user fees. This position requires frequent interaction with the general public.
Canal operators cover a 24-hour day, seven days a week. Appointees can expect to be assigned to cover night and weekend shifts and are subject to 24 hour emergency call-outs. During the non-navigation season, appointees will perform preventative maintenance activities, work with a maintenance crew on canal pump-out projects, perform minor repairs to structures and buildings, and other tasks as assigned.
Both annual and seasonal positions may be filled as the result of this examination. Seasonal positions are normally filled from May to November, do not receive fringe benefits, and are paid at a lower hourly rate. You will receive further information if you are called for an interview. If you receive a seasonal appointment from this eligible list, your name will remain active for annual appointment.
