Are there any other plugs i can use other than the regular stock AC Delco’s… i’ve heard only use AC Delco, but then i see on forums where guys are using Bosch, NGK, and a few other types and doing fine with those… i guess Bosch was used once in my car, and the car ran worse after that… and its really never idled the same since those mechanics fudged up… but i think its time for a tune up again (its been 2 years since plugs and wires)… And i was hoping there might be somethign else i can try … yes? no?
there’s things like Autolite and champion also…
are the irridium or platinum plugs worth the few extra bucks?
from what i see, seems like lots of ppl use NGK TR55’s
b/f has a 96 ss…i’ll ask him tomarrow what he thinks
i dont know what the newer cars like but for thirdgens, i heard good things about the ngk ur4 and ur5 for stock heads
ppl running vortec heads need longer reach to get into the chamber better and they recommend a tr55 plug. i hear lt1’s like the longer plug too
heres the specs on the three
ngk ur4 14mm .460" reach
ngk ur5 14mm .460" reach
ngk tr55 14mm .708" reach
i’m really considering the tr55 or the platinum tr55 (tr55xx) …
when the plugs and wires were changed 2 years ago, the fucktards screwed up and the car ran even worse… well, found out they put bosch in, and the next mechanic said use nothing but ACDelco… however, ever since this said mistake, the car has not idled the same… still does ok, i’ve gotten used to it, but its just not as smooth… and it also stumbles down low if you really get on it… (by down low i mean up to 1400 or so rpms)… now, i can fix this by applying the hotcam tune, but the idle is still wierd… it rocks a little, like a small came (like it always has), but there’s an added stumble… so, i dunno… never thought it could be the plugs… but it’d be nice if i got really really lucky, and this solved some problems…
car runs fine… just gettin a little worse gas mileage out of it lately… b/w that and it being 2 years since a tune-up, i’d like to get new plugs…
wires seem to be ok… no arcing or anything… i know they shoudl get replaced to, but i dunno if iwanna spend $80 on a wire set
NGK TR55 is good for and NA setup and for any type of power adder use the NGK TR 6. Those 2 plugs are the most popular used ls1 and lt1 plug. Im running the tr6 in my GTX and its a 3.8 supercharge.
I use NGK Iridiums in my 1995 Firebird.
i used the TR55, that’s why my engine is broken j/k i really did use the TR55
tr55’s have never let me down reg non platimum
TR55’s here.
Because changing plugs on 4th gens is such a pain, when I do the project, I always put Iridiums in to avoid having to do the job again. I’ve done this on my LS1 and LT1.
Regardless of what people say, I can’t imagine seeing a power increase after changing spark plugs unless there was something wrong with the ones that were in the car. (People confuse the same thing with air filters all the time - “hey, I went to a K&N and got 7 rwhp”. Yes, the K&N might be good for 1 or 2 but the rest came from replacing the cruddy old filter.)
it took me 20 min to change plugs remove coil packs its simple !! i used to have to check plugs all the time had 1 bad coilpack n JJ’s hooked me up
then the “incident” JJ’s hooked me up again !
i get a feeling changing my plugs is gonna take a while…
and i’m not lucky enough to have coil packs… somewhat new distributor tho
Not really, I have LT headers and it didnt take me that long maybe a half hour. It looked like when I had manifolds on it, it looked like it would be a lot easier. Good luck
if your changing plugs just do headers at the same time. plugs and stock manifolds have fun doin the back plugs on the drivers side. (ithink that is where the hard ones where. its been a few years)
easy to say… i dont have the cash for headers… plus its a car with 160K miles… i dont really wanna put a lot of money into it that i dont have to… i’m pleased with how it runs, so with teh miels on it, i’m not interested in shelling money into it
ez just do it
