article on launch of facebook email addresses

a web-based email client that we hear is unofficially referred to internally as its “Gmail killer”. Now we’ve heard from sources that this is indeed what’s coming on Monday during Facebook’s special event, alongside personal @facebook.com email addresses for users

I’m sitting here thinking i need to get a good one for myself but who really needs another e-mail address? I’m sure we all already have our work e-mail, our personal e-mail and a third account for signing up for bullshit…

Sure if facebook has some really interesting features it might be worth taking a look at.

I don’t even have a real g-mail account, other than the son240sx one, but i love how you use that same log-in to set up your analytics, adsense, google docs, etc. etc. etc.

A facebook e-mail doesnt seem all that appealling unless people really REALLY want to integrate their entire lives onto a single platform.

What you thinkin?

How can anyone expect to be taken seriously with ‘@facebook.com’ at the end of their email.

also, this is laughable considering the privacy mishaps they’ve had.

as much as i want to say “i don’t see it”, you know there are a million facebook whores out there that will take this on.

moreover, a lot of tech ideas seem retarded before you see them in application… then you think… WTF!!! why didn’t i think of that.

case in point that i was talking about this morning was that apparently Groupon has a $4B valuation if/when it IPO’s… what the shit?

I still use my aol e-mail account that I got in 1994. Too much of a pain to switch. Plus they have everything I need…imap, unlimited storage, etc. I have a gmail just for spam and android sync of calendar and contacts.

i judge people that use aol.com emails. (cough joe cough) and im sure I will judge people that use facebook emails.

Don’t see the point, other than catering to the self absorbed idiots who are super addicted to facebook.

You needed an email account to sign up for facebook in the first place and chances are you used your primary one. They may get some people who are using @internetprovider.com email address who were too dumb/scared to try web mail but I doubt many people using gmail, yahoo or msn etc are going to care about switching to an @facebook.com address.

And yeah, I would immediately stereotype anyone who gave me their primary email address ending in @facebook.com, placing them somewhere around @aol.com on the technological hierarchy.

Also, I think gmail is played out. too many of those these days. The only one I really judge is @mac.com.

My main concern is they let all those 3rd party apps on Facebook once email is linked it it wouldn’t take that much work to fuck with peoples email.

Really I don’t need the email however I’ve applied for mine anyways.

I’m hoping they’re not directly hardwired to our accounts. I have some idea’s I want to play with.

considering i get like 73 notifications a day on facebook, the only thing i would do is use this for my facebook account so the emails stop shitting up my regular email account which i cant even use anymore because i dont feel like shifting thru the shit
