My friend works for Boston Beer and has a really good breathalyzer. Upon extensive testing, I can say with all honesty that I personally feel almost completely unaffected at .05. Im sure however there is almost no science behind that.
how many beers is that?
If I drank 3 beers of 5% alcohol per beer, in 1 hour, I would be buzzed.
Yep, 3 IPAs will give you a nice warm feeling.
…Yeah, I would say .05.
in drivers ed they taught us that one beer at 4% gives you a BAC of about .02. I generally just try to drink less beers than number of hours I spend at the bar.
I can’t believe that the govt has not mandated that bars have a public access breathalyzer. They teach you the "“x number of drinks an hour is ok” but everyone is different. I know for a fact that sometimes after 3 beers in an hour, I should not be allowed behind the wheel (im a big pussy) but I have no idea what my % is.
I bet a huge number of dwai’s or the lower end DWI’s-- like .09’s are not necessarily due to the person being irresponsible, but that the person didnt know they were that intoxicated (im sure there are plenty of people who could drive fine at .08). Hell, I bet there’s plenty of people here who have driven at .05+ on the way home from a party the next day with a hangover and not realized it.
I know the correct answer is “dont drive drunk” but how often do you see drunk people say “im fine, im not drunk” when questioned if they should be driving (a drunk persons natural response). If someone stood up to that person, made them blow, and proved that they were above the legal limit-- they might put the keys down. If these units get one person a month per bar to put down their keys, its worth the money IMHO.
Let’s say the law abiding .05 to .08 crowd is scared and stops drinking @ 1.473 pints of 6.5% ABV craft brews. As a result an average 650 lives are saved…
…there would still be 9,228 dwi related deaths per year from the IDGAF crowd of .08 and above:

I guess NTSB doesn’t care about those 9,228 lives, because this proposal does nothing to save them.
I guess what I am saying is how can you say that of those people who register between .05 and .08 will cause an accident or kill someone? How can you say for sure that there will be lives saved because there is a chance that those people will be pulled over?
Bars were fun when I was in college.
I’d rather sit at home, drink a few beers with some friends, and then stay there.
Spending $12 on a 6 pack of something decent > spending $12 on three bud lights at a bar + random douches + loud music + risk of getting .05’d.
Yeah but if youre not poor and have friends that do things, bars are still fun.
is that where you get the passed out drunk girls to finger blast?
Bar are still fun
I am just assuming that the NSTB numbers are correct.
It’s bass ackwards to try and save 650 lives and do nothing to save 9,228 lives.
If you consider that 650 is only 2% of all the traffic deaths in the U.S. in the grand scheme of things it’s really nothing.
I’d rather see them go after the 28.6% of .08 and higher.
No, underage girls aren’t so easy to find in bars these days.
this
That goes to show you that this is more about something other than saving lives…
i think we have it wired in are brains, well some of us think that it is a decent way to meet girls . granted there are alot of chick at work i would like to…but its not the best idea…and lets be real noone ever got laid by sitting at home drinking a 6er.
If I was single this would be an issue I guess.
I’ve never had that problem.
Either way, this whole thing is just retarded on all fronts.
If I go to a bar I prefer the ones with max like 10 people in the place. Usually it’s to watch hockey.
Ditto.
How much weed are you going to be allowed to smoke and drive?
