Was the first time I’ve had to buld a cage of this caliber, and still retain 95% of the cars interior to meet(IMO bullshit) SCCA class rules and regs regarding what panels can be removed. Didn’t want to go bumping him up a class because we couldn’t get an 8 ounce A-pillar panel back in after adding 100lbs of tube :crazy I never compromise the cage design or construction to suit a cars interior and could have made this cage tighter had the panel installation not been required. Also would have added sub pillar die-flare support as well, but Eric specified that I did not break the OEM windshield seal.
This cage is built to FIA/RA specifications, minus the vertical forward bar support and subsequent gussets. This bar was omitted to aid with ingress/egress for Eric. It can always be added in if necessary.
Enjoy.
(mind the blue foam covering the sunroof opening. I’m working on the mold for the CF panel at the moment, that will be another fab tutorial.)
Also a picture of the trailer I modified with a custom tire rack so he could easily transport his gear and 285 stickies to the tracks, as well as drop-rails for the new sidemount HR4009’s.
Yessir. Was more of a bitch masking in this car because he was painting just the cage. If the full interior was being shot, less masking but more material(paint). My old coworker Pete Knight from KTA did the paint work. Scuffed, acid etched, PPG DP epoxy primer, single stage PPG gloss black. Paint job will outlast the car likely.
When you said you built a trailer I was expecting this thread to be about Eric’s car becoming a dedicated track car. Glad he’s keeping it a street car! woo!
are you adding padding though? what about poor eric’s brain if soccer mom t-bones him in her sienna
Thanks. Was a bit of fussing around to get it where it is now. Seat drop, SR removal, etc = ~3" headroom. If I ditch the thick RT seat padding in favor of some thinner stuff you get another inch or so.
Crash rating of Evo just went form 2 stars to 8 stars :ahh
He was on the one lap years ago but not in this car, IIRC it was a buddies BMW. Tire Rack stickers on all the OLOA cars but this sticker has been on his car as long as I’ve been working on it. I’m sure he’ll chime in here eventually.
Here’s another one I did recently for a member. JVG’s 240 that’ll never be done. :rofl Started as a piece of shit S+W cage that I heavily modified, threw out a good portion of it, and then added a shit ton more to it. These pics were taken a little bit before it was actually 100% done.
