I did this once and only once. My old truck that I got for a steal, I put almost 40K on and only topped of the oil a couple of times. I paid like $30 to have a shop change it, then traded it in on a new car. Let the next guy deal with the engine issues once it gets higher in mileage.
note to self.
Dont buy a car from tpgsr lolz
Nah, both of my current vehicles are taken care of, I just got a Ranger for real Cheap (20K on the clock, 8,000 dollars) this was years ago and I was never able to have any free time to do anything.
Haha well I was referring to sport bikes (ninjas to be specific) how long does it take to change the oil on your bike? Never worked on a cruiser before
The only Oil change I had done for me recently was my first complementary change at West Herr after I bought my Ranger. Now I remember why I stopped taking it places. Nevermind the prices or the fact that you could get some jackass to do it…I hate sitting in a little room while everyone in there bitches about something. Why can’t anyone be happy anymore? If you don’t like something about your life then change it or STFU. I am not trying to rant I just think it is rather funny to see pretty much everywhere. Even at Walmart.
“$6.78 for Tube Socks…What a rip off!”
I am back to changing my oil myself…it is cheaper, don’t have to drive somewhere, don’t have to wait, no BS to listen to, plus there is no fun not having to change it when it is 20° out. You really are only on the ground for 15 maybe 20 minutes if you really are draggin ass.
For those who asked why my oil change interval is so long:
I’m running a very high quality semi-synthetic oil. Every 5000 miles I change the filter and send out a sample for an oil analysis. So far, according to the analysis “the condition of oil is suitable for further service.” I also like the analysis because it counts all the metal particles and graphs them so you can follow wear trends.
is this a secretive “very high-quality semi-synthetic” oil?
if I changed my oil at that interval I would never have to change my oil before I sold a vehicle, haha.
conventional valvo- 3k
durablend max life- 4.5-5kish
synpowA-6kish
in my own experience, mobil 1 and royal purple, after 10k the shit still looked brand new
The easiest oil change ive ever done was on my e36. Lol the oil filter being under the hood.
Yeah, those are the best oil changes to do. New Tacomas have a remote oil filter location that is right next to the battery and even has a little nipple on tray that allows you to put a bottle under it to catch the old oil.
I just buy my friends lunch at their work and get a full mobil1 synthetic oil change w/filter.
:snky:
i just did my friends camry and it was right there, like bam! right in front, easiest shit ever lol. didnt even have to get underneath, and the drain plug was about a foot from the front bumper, i barely had to get underneath the car. it probably took less than 5minutes
on my cavalier its the most fucking impossible thing to get to ever, laying underneath the car
my integra was easy as shit too, but u had to be under the car
its rediculous how much some places charge for an oil change, the girls who i just did took it somewhere and they wanted 35bucks, we bought all of the oil (5+ quarts, she only needed 3.75) , the filter, and a funnel for under 15bucks
Subaru’s 2.2 is nice, right in the front. I’m really surprised at how thoughtfully that car was designed, everything from the brake calipers to the midmounted alternator was engineered to be accessable and quickly swapped… the rallycar heritage shows through.
On the other hand, Chrysler’s 3.5 on the LH platform is kind of a PITA, it’s up next to the subframe rail, they had to wedge it in there because of the north-south layout.
The best is my 302 4V… you just reach down with the hood open and unscrew the filter, you don’t spill a drop of beer
the e30 is like that. reach down, unscrew filter, thats that but when we had a cavalier it was nearly impossible by hand. I could barely fit my arm in there no matter where I was lol.
The 2.4L LD9 engine wasn’t bad, they were easy to get to.
My old Tercel was the same way, gotta love the simplicity of it.
Only thing I hate about taking it somewhere, is how they torque the motherfuck out of the oil drain plug and filter.
I always do it myself now.
When i first started driving i took it places…
But then when I’d go to do it myself, it would be damn near impossible to get the thing loose.
mainly the filter.
I use regular oil for everything but the cobra. $10.99 for 5 quarts and a filter at pep boys, castrol too.
Over the summer pep boys had $24.99 on 5 quarts of castrol syntec(full synthetic) and a filter. They stock 20w-50(a lot of places don’t have it) in castrol. I bought a bunch of them since my cobra takes about 9 quarts.
lol oversized oil pan on it?^
