FIOS coming

lol i didnt want to continue that argument here.

im just curious, i dont know much about it. my roommate was tryin to tell me sumn about the 100mb is pretty slow and is holding the speeds back or sumn. I took his word on it cause i dont know much about it. maybe hes just a douche? should i open a new thread to discuss it cause now im curious?

when going between 2 pcs gigabit is nice, but when connecting from an isp your limited on what speeds they offer, 15 meg is nowhere near the capacity of a 100mbit nic. so 100 is fine for FIOS. But just because you have a gigabit switch doesnt mean ur going to get gigbit speeds through FIOS, adelphia or any other ISP.

right so the gigabit router is pointless, do i need a gigabit nic if i get the gigabit switch and want the speeds?

yes everything needs to be matched or the switch/router will default to the lowest speed nic.

yeah thats what i figured, thanks for the insight

“Verizon’s FiOS service offers several tiers of high-speed Internet access, beginning with a $34.95 monthly rate that offers downloads at 5 megabits per second and upload speeds of 2 megabits per second as part of a calling package.”

Reading that kind of makes it sound like you will have to have a landline as well.

so thats 34.95 for phone and internet?

I doubt it. I’m guessing that it’s 34.95 tacked on top of whatever their phone plans are.

bastards

It’s just a guess so I could be completely wrong, but that was how I interpreted that one sentence.

UGH. I want this service sooo bad. I really, really want to get rid of Adelphia. I wonder how long it will be till we get it here in Sunny LA (lackawanna). It’s right next to Hamburg!!!

That would be great, but given my previous history with Verizon…I’m a little scared.

Nice, but I don’t think I’ll be switching quite yet. Though it owns adelphia in so many ways.

i wonder how their voice package will be if its all fiber optic…

Probably be mostly the same seeing as it is running over a lot of old equipment in places. Though it will definatly reduce interferance I would imagine.

i have a good idea that they have plans to drop their old copper network once the fiber is installed.

same here (also intrested to see FIOS aswell)… I hope they cripple adelphia for all their years of charging people up the ass

Heres a review on FIOS TV

FIOS, Fuck yeah! the DVR is a little weak sauce compared to the adelphia one. I can record 2 shows at once and watch one of my recorded shows all at the same time. Anyone know what they are charging for tv+internet ? fiber seems to be bent a little to far in that dude’s box though, that may be a problem.
