So I moved into my current place last october. Previous owners had Fios. There is a 1’x2’ Verizon box on the wall for fios. Has a battery in it and some other crap. Never bothered with it as it wasnt in the way and i’m with TW. Now it’s in the way, my question is are these worth anything to anybody? I did call verizon back when I moved in and they gave me some line about it being worth upwards of $10,000 (huge lol) and they would send a tech out to remove it. But again at the time it wasnt a huge concern. Just curious is all.
It’s called an ONT and it converts the fiber to something you can use in your home. I’m pretty shocked Verizon doesn’t keep better track of them because I’m sure they’re expensive.
Last i knew they leave them installed so they dont have to do it again
good to know, I also agree.
that does make alot of sense. Its done rather well, mounted on big fire proof board and everything.
It’s somewhat expensive but how many other people actually need fiber converters?
So much for $10000
If it’s in the way and you’re definitely not going FIOS I’d either call them to have them take it down or just take it down yourself and drop it off at one of their FIOS stores.
Just curious… why aren’t you going FIOS if it’s available? It blows TW away.
Price
I’m pretty sure FIOS uses this EPON setup which means with out the shit at the head end the box at your house can’t do that much anyways
take it down and put it somewhere safe. Down the road if you try to get it they will look you up in the computer and will probably make you pay to have a new one installed. Just my .02
They pull fiber through your house and terminate it there. They left it on the wall at my old apartment when I moved out so they don’t need to terminate again if someone else want it there. I would call them and say it needs to move and if they don’t remove it, you will take it down yourself. I really suggest you have them come if it isn’t your house and you rent so you don’t cause a headache for your landlord.
TW blows. If FIOS is available, you’re crazy to be with TW.
If you did take it down and put it on the curb, I’m sure if you did decide to get fios down the line, they wouldn’t tell you no. I mean you could always say it wasn’t there when you bought the house. And are they really going to pass up on a monthly paying customer over a little equipment?
I’ve been with TW/adelphia for my entire life. I’m 100% satisfied with my TW service. Cable and Internet. I have no need to switch to be honest. I pay $100/mo for 30/2 web + their turbo whatever add-on and Every channel except the movie channels which i dont need. In the last 10-12yrs i’ve only needed a tech out twice. To each his own I guess.
Come to think of it, most telco stuff has some township regulations as well for burials. If you start pulling out the box which is owned by Verizon, you may be getting a letter from your town as well and fined maybe.
