Fios Questions

I have Fios for tv and internet. All of my discounts are gone so my bill has jumped. I want to keep my internet but drop tv. I can’t seem to get a straight answer of what or if any fees they will charge for dropping tv package.

Call and threaten to cancel completely…I can almost guarantee they will give you a lower rate.

They’re going to charge you much more for internet if you drop TV.

+1 on calling and saying you’re going to switch. I’ve done this twice now and both times got a great deal. The key is being personable and sincere, not some prick saying “I demand this or I’m gone”. I started with what ever promotion Time Warner had at the time and when I called Verizon played the whole, “I really love your service and hate to leave but money is tight and Time Warner is offering me a much better deal. Is there anything you can do to help me lower my bill so I don’t have to switch?”. It also helps if you’re one of those customers who always pays your bill on time. The retention department will do a lot more to keep a customer if they’re not constantly sending them those did you forget to pay your bill postcards.

Me too

I called once, and it was actually cheaper to keep the DVR and cable than to cancel the TV and just keep the cable… quite lame how the packages trap you.

I have fios internet and Directv. Called directv to cancel, as fios has been pounding me hard and my contract with DTV expires in August. They knocked $60/month off my bill for the next 6 months.

I signed up as a new customer when my promotions ran out. Switched the service from Joseph to Joe. Told them Joseph was a family member who no longer lived in the house. Got a $500 visa gift card and $40 off for 24 months. Even got to keep my phone number  There is a whole thread on slickdeals on how to do this if interested.

I like how they give non-customers better deals than the loyal existing ones.

I argued that point out with Time Warner before I switched. Their response was that I already got the benefit of the promo once so I didn’t deserve it again, whereas new customers hadn’t been so lucky yet. Goodbye FGGTS.

I’ll have to give them a call.

Because the majority of the people won’t deal with the hassle of changing.

I dropped my tv service about 2 weeks ago, as long as you are not in contract (technically not a contract a “agreement”) they can charge you extra fees but if you aren’t then no extra charges. JayS is right you will pay more for internet, I tried in the store and via phone they wouldn’t give me a good rate for internet only they where willing to jump through hoops to give me a good deal if I keep TV. I will likely end up with TV service back on again but I wanted to give cableless a honest try.

I am paying 79.99 for 50/25, my previous bundle for Extreme HD and 25/25 was up to like 105.

For 25 bucks I don’t see it as worth getting rid of it. I also don’t do enough online that I see the benefit of the extra speeds. The only things that lag are not on my end as it is.

I’m thinking about dropping my TV and possibly lowering my Internet to 15/5 FiOS. I just don’t watch enough TV and I already “have” a Netflix account. I can do it all online but I think I might call them instead.

I managed to get internet only 25/25 for $40 a month but I got a CSR in the retention department who really jumped through some hoops to hook me up. When I got my first bill I was listed under a verizon employee plan.

I still eventually went back to TV service. I just found there are too many random things I like to watch on discovery that have really limited streaming/pirating options. I’m at $102/month after fees/taxes for 50/25, extreme HD and a single cable card rental.

So FIOS would not help me at all. Basically said the only way is to drop to the lowest services they have. All I would be saving is $10 a month. I said I would cancel internet and TV if they couldn’t help me save more. Lady didn’t skip a beat and asked what day I wanted it canceled.
I am now a Direct TV customer. I guess now I will have to go with time-warner for internet. Any recommendations for a modem?

DirecTV can bundle with Fios internet and save you a bunch. It’s what I do.

I think the providers have realized that everyone is trying the whole “lower my bill or I’m leaving” trick and it’s reached the point where they are better off calling the bluff. When people do leave they call up a couple weeks and offer to buy out contracts to get the customer back. That’s happened to two people I know just recently.

I need to figure something out with my internet. I pay $65 a month for Turbo internet and have DirecTV. I have recently though about switching to Fios for internet, but now you guys are saying if I go through DTV for Fios, I can get a discount?

You can go DTV in areas that Verizon doesn’t offer fiber service.
