i think it’s already available in my 'hood. i got a postcard saying “you’re all set for some fios, muh-fucka.”, but i just tossed it on the dining table and forgot about it.
haven’t got notification yet but hopefully Glenshaw gets the hookup and I can switch over asap.
I hope they tear up my neighborhood also
I just got broadband ~3 years ago. It took them forever it seemed. Also, since my cable provider is adelphia… cable internet sucks ass here. I have DSL at home. I do not qualify for FIOS yet and probably never will. Or i’ll get it in 3 years from now just as something better is on the way.
got a notification that fios is available in my hood and im pretty sure were doing it. they are offering it to us for the exact same price as dsl. 29.99 for 15mpbs or whatever.
u know what that means? :naughty:
yeah. it means he’s getting it
No, I practically wrote a report differentiating the speeds of cable, dsl, fiber
It means this shit better not give me problems or im gonna be jacked…haha. that and i can download porn at “unbelievably high speeds” :bigok:
i have the service already. it is fine. fast and does what i need it to do. i have the 15mb down and 2mb up. it is true to speed all the time
how does this compare to cable?
i think a few times faster
i want it, its not available yet in my area
i want it, its not available in my area yet
DSL 1.0 - 1.5Mbps (about 20 times as fast as the fastest dial-up connection)
Cable 2 - 3Mbps
FIOS 15 Mbps :eek4:
i’m still not sure on the technology… there is still data latency adn degradation to consider.
how fast does a home user really need to be? i guess this would be nice for a small business, but any real business would have some sort of T… and any real deal business will have dark fiber…
Let’s take the good points:
Fiber: Not affected by weather, electricity, or water like copper. Susceptible to all the physical damage such as people taking down a pole, trees falling on the line, squirrels chewing up the cables, digging it up with a backhoe, etc. the same as copper.
Speed: Tremendously fast. Why so fast? For streaming audio and video via the internet.
Clarity: Telephone calls over fiber are CRYSTAL CLEAR.
Bandwidth: I don’t think anyone has come close to making a dent in the bandwidth of a piece of fiber. I believe that 1 single fiber will carry more than 550,000 voice telephone calls. The only limitation to bandwidth is the equipment that is on either end of the fiber.
Competition: Yes that’s right. Sooner or later Verizon will have all the necessary permits and permission to provide Video (Cable Television) over fiber and compete with the cable company. Your cable company offers phone service…Does it not?
Value: More bandwidth or services for less than or equal to what I am currently paying with comcast, adelphia, whoever…
I can’t think of anything else.
wow! even with all that info…
SlowCivic, I think Ive seen your civic at dormont co. Im a SET there.
