First Annual Rocky Mountain Run - Sep 4th and 5th, 2004

This is basically going up as it did on 780, but I thought I’d post it up here because it would be great to have a strong NECC presence for this event!

780Tuners.com and Beyond.ca would like to invite you to the driving event of the summer. This Labour Day weekend will mark the First Annual Rocky Mountain Run. Since this is the inaugural event it is being planned for 2 days, but in future years we hope to see the Rocky Mountain Run extend into a 5 day event touring all the way down to the lower mainland and up through the interior of B.C.

This year’s event will begin the morning of Saturday, Sept. 4th in Edmonton. The first day of the Rocky Mountain Run will take us south to Calgary, west to Banff and then north to our overnight stop just south of Jasper. The second day will carry us northeast from Jasper through Hinton and Edson and then on to Edmonton. The southern participants will then continue on down Hwy.2 to home. The first day will include 8 hours driving for the Edmonton group and 5 hours for the Calgary group, the second day should bring 4 hours for the Edmonton group and 7 hours for the Calgary group. By breaking the run up into 2 days we allow ourselves more time to enjoy the cruise at the posted speed limits, as well as making stops along the way.

Accommodations in Jasper should be pre-booked by participants if hotels are wanted; we are also booking a group site at the Whistlers campground just south of Jasper. Accommodations at the campsite will be $22/site for the night; possibly less if we are able to confirm the numbers beforehand. We are looking into how many vehicles are allowed per site and will have something posted here by Friday the 13th.

Planned stops at the moment include Red Deer, Calgary, Banff, Lake Louise, Columbia Icefields, Jasper, Hinton, Edson and Edmonton for a wrap up dinner before the southern group continues on home. Maps and itineraries will be supplied to all drivers upon arrival at the departure points for each city. We welcome drivers from all over Alberta, Saskatchewan and B.C. to participate in this family event.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please share them on this thread.

Sounds like a great idea. Does anyone want too go. I would be up for it but as a navigator.

If I was starting my new job that weekend I would consider going. How many people do you expect to go Matt?

Well I’m hoping for at the very least 30, but I’d like to see as many as possible.

Hello again everyone. I am starting to compile the list of all participants. What I need from you is your name, the number of vehicles you will be bringing, the number of people in those vehicles, whether or not you will be camping and your city that you live in.

My email is matt@v8less.com

I would like to have all information in by August the 25th at the latest so I can book the group campground.

Thanks, Matt Haase
