As some of you are aware, Champ Car, the series that is the foundation of the Grand Prix Toronto (GPT) has now merged with the Indy Racing Legue (IRL). Because of this there will not be a GPT event for us to go to this year.
However, IRL has a race planned that same weekend (Friday July 4th to the 6th) at Watkins Glen. So it made sense to persue them in an effort to replace our event at the GPT. And after some talks with the track, we’re in. 
Here are the details:
- There will be a cruise / rally to and from Wakins Glen on some of that areas more fun roads.
- You’ll be able to either camp at the track, or choose a hotel as usual.
- We have our own area with a tent over the cars right in the infield of the track.
- Danica Patrick will be signing Skunk’s ass.
- The largest fireworks display in upstate NY will be going off.
- There will be a “block party” with music, drinks, etc.
- The price will include 2 admission tickets like the GPT, but this time it will give us access to an area to actually watch the races.
- This is going to be the big, annual, cornerstone event for Onyx Syndicate and NYSpeed in NY.
Costs:
The price is $200 per car or bike, and includes 2 admission tickets, parking under our showcase tent and a sponsor / forum sticker package. Price also includes track time on Friday evening!
You’ll note that the price is higher than previous years in Toronto. There was no way around it as this time around we have to pay for our own tent.
You can also purchase a campsite (fits 6-7 people) for the weekend for $120, which will significantly lower the overall cost of the weekend :tup: (verses hotel prices in Toronto - yikes!)
There is a 30 car limit right now to the amount of cars we can bring, and as usual there will be the requirement that your car fit the “tastefully modded, performance oriented” vehicle slogan. (No tasteless “show cars”)
I’ll post an itinerary in a few weeks, but it’s important to note that we may have to be at the track Thursday night (July 3rd) for setup. We’re also working on a way to allow those who want to drive their cars out of the showcase each night and back each morning to do so :tup: (Unlike Toronto where we needed to keep our cars there the whole weekend.)
