I’ll spot you the JGTC series as that is pretty unfair. The people who constantly shit on imports for thier whp dyno bragging are driving vehicles made for no other reason than to have some rediculously huge motor in it. They have shitty interiors, look like lunchboxes, are bought in lieu of an education…kidding, etc…They generally can’t turn for shit, and frankly weren’t made for it in the first place. I was just pointing out, albeit poorly, that there is more to “i got torque and that’s all that counts” shit. Last time I checked there are more curved roads than straight ones in this country, so why brag about how much torque your car has when it is only useable on a small fraction of the road. Every car type has it’s shortcomings.
I’m not dissing domestic muscle cars at all, they have thier place. It does highlight one simple and universal truth in cars or hobbies in general
example: If all the “stupid ricer blah blah” guys “saw the light”, as you domestic enthusiasts say…and all sold thier cars to buy domestics, you’d cry and have to find something else because it would be cool anymore. It works both ways.
Moral: Put you cock measuring tool away and go home.
i understand what your saying. The ‘see the light’ comment was kinda dumb.
I could of EAISLY afforded something with a v8, but I opted for a 240sx and a sr20det. It’s what I wanted. Now granted, its generally eaiser and cheaper to make 900whp with a big block than it is with a 4 cylinder, the hell, thats half the fun. I’m building my 240 to compete in turbo street and sport rwd classes i know it won’t be easy but I didn’ wnat it to be either. I like the challenge.
IMO anybody can drop 30k on a cobra, change a pully and exhaust and say ‘ya man, i built a 650whp car, whats that 4 banger got’
dumb? overgeneralization maybe. What part of the exclusivity of hobby interest escapes you? If every one ran out and got a 240, I guarrantee your plans change. Now that’d be pretty dumb.
torque>*
v8>4cyl
anything you can do to a small 4cyl, you can do to a big CI v8 and make a bunch more power.
the only reason “imports”(and similar domestics like the cobalt, mazda3, etc…) are even remotely fast is they are death traps that weigh 2000 lbs.
Most races (before the ricers came around) when I was growing up in the early 90’s were from a stop. The only races you see now is lame as fuck roll racing because all the 4cyl homo’s can’t hang from a stop, why, because of no torque.
I don’t see anything wrong with that. I have only ever owned imports, but I would love to get something that was that easy to upgrade. Don’t discount the abilities of a car just because they didn’t have to do an engine swap and turbo to make tons of HP.
oh i’m not discounting anything. I don’t knock v8’s at all, they have the potential to make enormous amounts of horsepower. Its just funny how almost all v8 owners/enthusiasts are the same. They all say their enthusiasts of cars and racing but they’ll knock a car based on the SOLE fact it doesn’t have 8 cylinders. Theres plenty of 4 bangers in the 7 second range and their running from a dead stop. Granted their not streetable cars, but how many v8 in that range are TRULY legal street machines.
i posted a bid of a 6 second vette that was street legal…6 seconds bouncing back onto the wheelie bar the whole way down the 1/4mile. i have owed nothing but 4bangers since my blazer and i have to say…they are good for gas thats why i keep them…but for a toy…it will be a v8
