When my “friend” rob was hit by a car and killed, the whole town of hamburg suddenly was rob’s best friend. People kept asking me why i wasn’t sad… I was bummed out, but i wasn’t going to walk around crying about a kid i saw once a month, and neither should you.

Yeah, interesting dynamics go on in a community when stuff like this happens. I think part of the reason people who had barely any connection get so worked up is because they’re scared because it could have been them but feel guilty letting themselves be upset for a “selfish” reason so they convince themselves they are hurt for the person they barely knew. :shrug:
As for the family that lost their house, I’m glad there’s a fund for them so hopefully it can help cover their short term needs but I bet dollars to donuts that they will end up with a FAT check from Continental. As in, fat enough for the wife to buy a house anywhere she wants and not have to ever worry about money again. Their house is gone and the husband is dead because one of their planes failed, possibly because of their pilot’s error if not negligence.
Def agreeing with you on this one. It is nice to see a fund set up for them but you know there set for life.
I agree with you 100%. People dont understand that it can easily become disrespectful to be morning with the real family and close friends of the victums that you dont even know. Its one thing to care and show your respect but some people just take it to the point were it becomes disrespect. I remember a few months back when my buddies sister Lyndsi Mathews was struck by a semi and was killed people who didnt even know her or there family were going to mermorial services and such. It was like the cool thing to do jumping on the bandwagon. Meanwhile a family has lost there daughter/sister ect…
It is the shock value of a major incident. More than 100 people die everyday in car crashes but they don’t make national headlines. I have wondered, is it a good thing to make planes that carry a few hundred people? If one of these new giant jumbos goes down, this will seem tiny in comparison.
It will be sacred ground for about 6 months. Then people will forget about it. Just the same as the field in PA that the 9/11 plane went down in. I think they should clean the site up and put a house back in its place. It was a sad event, but we can’t put a memorial every place something happens. I agreee it was an ultra sad event. But building a concrete wall with names on it won’t bring anyone back. Sometimes its just better to put the past behind you. People of the neighborhood don’t want to be reminded every day they drive to work of what happened. Every one of the dead with have plots where they are burried, their families will go there to remember them. Think of how often you go to your grandparents grave site.
It might by my cruel opinion. But then again, I have burried a few friends, and kissed little girls that can never hug daddy. Death isn’t as bad once youve lived threw enough of it.
Honor the memories of your loved ones past by living life to its fullest.
Looking back too much will only cause you to trip and fall on the rest of life.
The family will have plenty of insurance/lawsuit money to go where they want and build what they want.
Leave the TV builders for some family with special needs and that kind of thing.
i must say, amazing how many people are actually signing the make over petition. i signed it about an hour ago with just over 15000, and now its up to 18447 just after about an hour or so.

A friend of mine works for homeland security and is working at the site today. He called me and told me he just walked under the wing of the plane. He also said that they are still removing body parts. Pretty crazy. He’s standing on the back deck the only part of the house remaining

IIRC some motorcycle group typically shows up to keep them out of the way peacefully, without giving them what they want (an attack that they can sue for.)
If this church shows up I will gladly give up a day to stand in front of them.
