FMIC'S on ebay.. does ir really matter?

im not really to concerned with this issue but sice im running a little bigger turbo… then stock… and im running 2.25 ic piping and my stock intercooler has inlets of 1.75 …

soo im thinking of just getting a little bigger then stock fmic with 2.25 inlites… but these IC’S ABOVE… IS THERE A HUGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN IC’S? like ive heard about the starion might be bigger but they suck… is bigger always better?

whats more important when it comes to intercoolers, core thichness?

my basic question is what makes intercoolers’ different? if there the same size just different ic’s??

i wanna buy something that works better then my stocker which is pretty big for stock…

but im not into this car enough to go spend more money on a ic then anything else…

this is just a project toy…

With intercoolers big flow doesn’t always mean big power. Because you need that air to slow down thru the cooler, to get any benefit. But not to much!!! Kinda makes your head hurt when you think about it.

Doug, you don’t want to get too big of an intercooler. The bigger the internal volume, the greater the pressure drop. If you’ve got too much of a pressure drop, you’ll lose effeciency… essentially robbing yourself of power from getting too large of an intercooler. Sizing in crucial.

“The biggest intercooler isn’t always the best intercooler” - Corky Bell

once u get to a certain thinkness, any thicker will hurt you

but you don’t want to go too small either or it won’t cool the air much at all, which completely defeats the purpose. i’d say if you’re running a little more boost than stock, go a little bigger with the IC

A great intercooler for the money ($340) is the Forge. Here are a couple links:

That intercooler looks a lil too big for your application… greddy makes the nicest intercoolers hands down. Their quality is 2nd to none. Check one out.

WHEN IT COMES TO SIZING… my stock 91pgt with stock turbo @ 16-17 psi had no detonation… AND WENT 13.8@99 14.0@102.7 on stock fuel… stock turbo and stock fmic… soooo…

[mx6]
this time i actaully bought the fuel pump… chip [upgraded fuel curve and boost cut eliminate] the turbo’s a tad bigger… and i ve got ic piping and turboxs bypassvalve… [so it will actaully hold the 16-17psi till redline] and 330 cc injector’s out of the 90-92 pgt/mx6 gt’s!

so to be safe im trying to not get to much money invested in this…

i wasn t really worried about the intercooler to much but i figured i upgraded everything else up a TAD why not get a little bigger intercooler…

i barely have 2500$ invested in this car… and thats including the car itself.

goal- high 12’s… or ill settle for 13.1-13.2!

the tough part about my car is its all tq… so its tough to get a nice trap out of this sohc12v… but im shooting for at least 108-110 if im lucky… who knows…

and as for a bigger fmic not being worth my while… i figured this…

even if i had a big ic nobody could see it on my car anyway do to the bumper hides everyting including airflow…

good info…
