This has been the most hectic month in a half I have ever had with my car. So first it starts off on a sunny afternoon with my clutch slipping on the highway. I’m like damn, so now I got change my clutch. So I had an older 240 with a stronger clutch in it, so I took that out and put it in my current car. A bit of work, but that kind of shit happens, so I move on. A couple of weeks later I notice oil in the engine bay and a lack of power so I do a compression test. I cracked 2 pistons due to detonation. So I’m like damn now I got to get new pistons with rings and all that. (Got stock pistons for money savings) So everything is fine, two weeks later I’m driving along with a smile nodding my head to some Weezer, then bam! I break something bad in the transmission. The trans starts making very loud sounds and then I become sad. Next day I put in the old transmission I had lying around in my garage. Again everything is fine, and I went back to my head nodings. A week later on my way home from Toronto, I break another freaking piston, much smoke coming from the exhaust. I didn’t retard the timing enough and put low octane gas in. Feeling like a douch I take apart the engine again, replace the last cylinder. And get on with my life. About 3 days later, again, I’m driving, not as much head nodding as before cause I was thinking of my crazy month I had, but I was glad it was all over. So I go to the bank start the car and what DO I HEAR! rod nock. Wooo! Is it all over, We will find out in I guess a week or so.
Someone please tell me I’m not the only one with these crazy problems this month.
Damn bro, that sucks. I would have given up after the second time the engine blew. You have a lot of patience.
What kinda KA-T setup are you running and how much boost?
Honestly, going SR would solve all of your woes. Even though there are rocker arms, you can still bounce off the rev limiter to your heart’s content and everything will be fine lol.
long story short. pulled my motor 3 times, tranny 4 times for stupid surprises from the last owner. and 2 days ago blew my motor. fuck. been owning the car for just about 10 months now too.
Keep at it with the KA-T’s, don’t listen to these SR fanboys. KA’s are like a stroked and bored SR with a much better head design, lmao. Before someone replies, I’m just poking fun, don’t turn this into an SR vs. KA thread please. Thanks.
Btw, what are you using for tuning, ROM Tune, SAFC or standalone?
If you’re on SAFC only, I really really suggest going ROM tune. What kind of setup are you running btw?
My car is at home awaiting repairs, needs new water pump, new exhaust, new bushings, fix oil leak, replace power steering rack, install inner & outer tie rods, alignment, needs multilink, needs non-hicas subframe, p/s pump mod, needs to pass emissions next month…booo. lol
LMAO ^^^ I’m sporting an apexi afc neo (which no one seems to like) I pretty much just tuned it from my wideband. But ROM tune would be nice; I think saving up time is in order. U2 Dyno perhaps ?..
T25, 370cc, injectors, fmic, 7 pounds. When the car is running right the torque is nuts. Speaking of nuts, all you people are nuts with your 5 motors and 3 blown ka’s, broken tranys everywhere. All this others misfortune weirdly enough makes me feel better; I’m not alone in this crazy broken world. Next time though, SR.
Does the Apexi AFC Neo control timing, or does it only fool the values going into the ECU to get more fuel? If it is only for fuel adjustments, then there is your problem with blowing KA’s, lol. A T25 at 7psi, is NOTHING for stock internals, assuming there is no detonation occuring. Go get an EFI Specialist tune or something, they’re not that expensive…I have an EFI Specialist ECU tuned for 370cc injectors and a stock MAF. I might consider selling it to you when I fix my car in January.
Edit: Btw, I’ll buy you lunch or something if you take me for a spin in your car. I need to know what a T25 KA feels like before I start buying parts for my T28 setup. It must spool at like 2200rpm, insane amounts of low end, which is really all you need in a daily driver.
The Neo is pretty similar to the SAFC 2. It does not control timing and it fools the ECU by altering MAFS voltage. This also screws up the stock timing map, which is one of the reasons IRo’s KA’s keep blowing (other than KAs being shitty in general).
Ahmad, my past two setups were KA-Ts. My first KA-T was a T3/T4 and my last one was a T25. Tuning on the first was a JWT tuned ECU, which was garbage so I had to correct with a SAFC. The second was just a SAFC.
The T3/T4 was decent but it cost millions and I could of had a well setup SR for less. Also, random shit was always breaking but the motor didn’t blow until I sold it, and the next owner sold it as well.
The T25 was complete shit. No power at all, especially at the top end. That motor blew after one summer.
Both had great low end torque when compared to a SR but who cares. Torque is nice on the street but if you’re anything like me, you’ll stay off the throttle as much as possible since the fast spool on the KA kills gas extra fast.
On the track, both KA-Ts were shit. The truck motor stroke meant that the top end left much to be desired. Moreover, I was always paranoid that something was gonna blow at any minute.
If I were you, I would strongly reconsider going KA-T, especially since you seem like a noob. Even draggonne doesn’t back KA-T anymore so that has to say something.
^^ yes Draggone does!! trust me… he just waiting to get things straightened out finanically and set up his life proper before building another one. he is going to build a KA-T monster!! If you build a KA-T proper with correct tining it will last ages. Alot of people in the states have KA-T’s they DD and beat on every track event and its fine. I personally would rather not go with a KA-T, but its not a bad motor at all!! I am going 6cylinders for my last stand next year!!
