Your work isn’t paying you your usual $? Most places do
They only cover $40/day for 3 days…fucking bullshit.
ewwy
yeah, that sucks… I got covered 100%
On it right now!!!
Session 7B…
1st day… 120ish people in a court room; people with excuses go talk with the judge. He decides if your excuse is good enough to be excused. The remaining people are put into a “lottery” and names are drawn until 46 people are selected; 2 groups of 23.
Those groups meet 3 times a week starting at 9:15 am till mid afternoon with at least an hour lunch.
It’s listening to the ADAs present evidence to charge for ANY and ALL Felonys. Not convicting or aquitting anyone.
Write them a letter, with your budget and how much this is going to end up costing you, and claim financial hardship. MANY people get out of jury duty on legitimate financial hardship claims. It should actually be easier to argue financial hardship for a grand jury than a regular jury since it’s a month not a week.
EDIT: If you can’t prove this is a real financial hardship, don’t try it. NY is going to want proof.
ugh, I am jealous. I want to participate in Jury Duty so bad.
Although it doesn’t apply to the OP, owning/running your own business by yourself will get you out. I just had to write them a letter claiming financial hardship, etc, and they left me alone.
You’d be suprised how many people got out just tellin the judge that they couldn’t afford it… no proof needed other than word of mouth if you show up the 1st day.
Just play completely biased, white trash, dress in a wife beater, stained of course. I heard it works when you get questioned about your background and shit.
“Send the *(&^$% to jail. We wouldn’t be here if there wasn’t some truth to the claim, and he wouldn’t be here if it weren’t true, some other sap would!”
In regards to the thread title, FML easily defeats grand jury duty duty in any imaginable contest where they would be faced vs. each other.
Agreed
Agreed
It is just unfortunate that jury duty has turned into a “fuck my life” rather then a “oh cool, this should be interesting”.
One thing I truly fear is being place in court in front of a jury of my peers, because I know 90% of them will be dumb asses.
I have served the community enough in my life, Jury Duty can “suck on muh ball sack”.
I served on a grand jury last fall.
It did last 3 weeks.
It was 3 days/week.
Parking was only 3 bucks/day at Adam’s Mark and I still received my normal salary.
We were out early almost every day, so it wasn’t too bad.
Edit:
It BLEW MY MIND how stupid the people in my jury were. They could not grasp the concept that we were not proving innocence/guilt, but rather whether or not the case had enough evidence to go to trial.
They acutally let a guilty rapist go because of this.
It’s your right to have a non-jury trial.
Generally, my thinking has always been if I was guilty I’d go with the jury trial, because it’s easier to convince one or two idiots in a group of 12 that your lie is true.
If I was innocent and had the facts on my side, trial by judge. It worked for the Wilson coaches.
Yup… I’ve got 3 out of 23 that are NIGHTMARES to deal with… I’ve gotten into screaming arguements with 1 of them on multiple occasions because he’s just dumb… We’ve got 2 that do nothing but make dumbass comments constantly, and when they’re not doing that they’re sleeping/snoring in the courtroom!!!
I wrote a letter telling them that this would cause a hardship on my company in this economic climate, had my boss sign it and was excused.
Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd I got got. Go me!
YOU GOT GOT??? CONGRATS!
ahaha i got got it also!!!
