This is going to be a long winded review, but my experience spans over a 22 month timeframe and I am still dealing with the repairs as I write this. I feel it is important to notate all of the details in order to properly warn my fellow GT-R owners. I would never want anyone to have to go through what I have experienced over the last couple of years.
Here are the cliff notes for anyone who doesn’t want to read the entire detailed experience”
• 22 month project
• Over $250,000 spent at Forged Performance
• Countless lies and broken promises
• 300 whp below goal
• Engine failure before delivery
• Transmission failure shortly after delivery
• 2nd Engine failure upon teardown
• Hacked up turbo kit
• Overcharged for the performed work
• Horrible craftsmanship
• Shoddy work
• FP refused to compensate me for the troubles or refund me"
now forgive me since i dont follow GT-R t00nerzzz but im curious as to what made this guy decided to hand 250k to “Forged Performance” to modify his 100k Nissan…
like did he see even see work the shop did before hand or did he just open the yellow pages and blindly point his finger to a t00ner to decide?
You know what, I’ll sleep like a baby tonight. So on one hand the fggt is complaining about the car being 300 whp under a target goal, which a target goal is a set in stone number that the internets told him he should make, then he is complaining the tranny blew up and the motor blew up? Motors and trannys blow when you modify them fggt. If you can’t grasp that, you suck. Anyone who would hand over $250k instead of just buying a better car is a fggt.
For the price of all that nightmare… he could have a monster Pro-Touring Twin Turbo classic that would out handle, and out perform that GTR hand built by Rad-Rods by Troy in 1/3rd the time.
Honestly you are all shocked at this $250k and I dont understand why. In parts, labor and whatever else he bought there. Take a look at AMS pricing for just motors and all the “power adders” and then add in wheels, fuel system and other little tidbits like tires and accessories and it’s pretty easy to get there quick on a GTR. Shocking to see come from forged performance as they do evo stuff as well.
you’re right … i don’t think that forged overcharged him for parts. I am sure they are expensive. Especially the multiple turbo kits, one of which was custom built.
In my OPINION, it’s still just insane. He seriously could be daily driving a mildly modded and still REALLY fun GT-R, AND be driving a Ferrari on the weekend. It’s even more insane, because for 22 months, he just kept cutting more and more checks without EVER seeing his car. I know that at times it isn’t possible, but this is precisely the reason why you don’t pay for things until you see the results.
Obviously the guy has some cash so I don’t see anything insane about wanting somebody to build an insane car for you. He probably has other insane cars already and was driving that Ferrari on the weekends while this was being built.
Odds are this guy most likely has more disposable income and is busy doing whatever it is that makes him that cash and the car is an after thought. Now I mean 22 months is most definitely well beyond a decent time frame to complete something like that and I personally would have been asking questions after about 6 months but that’s me. Last time I heard a Shep Trans rebuild for the GTR tranny was upwards of 30k so that price tag doesn’t shock me as much as the shotty work and the time period.
yeah… probably. But still, who in their right mind CONTINUES to send money to a person/shop for two years without ever seeing any progress, and with continued delays?
The price doesn’t surprise me, it’s the shit job for that price that does. I can weld better than that and I’m terrible. Stacks of washers to make stuff fit? On a $250k build?
