The Federal Reserve’s job is to control the money supply. They use different techniques to either help the economy grow or help it contract if inflation becomes too high.
It pretty much acts as a buffer between the government and the public to prevent the economy from spiraling out of control, either up or down. The truth is, we need The Fed.
Also, it does provide jobs, it just does it indirectly by loosening the money supply when necessary.
Redistribution is not the answer, but the problem is that the middle class can not afford to spend what needs to be spend to push the nation forward.
But, the things we buy are not made here. In the 50’s to the 70’s the top 1% was close to middle class in terms of their portion of the economy.
Then they started pulling away and the middle class did not even come close to keeping up. I saw a chart somewhere like this one, that showed it, but it was a library book, so I can’t just go dig it up
As a society we are basically going to be screwed in the next decade.
The middle class will push to make sure the rich fall while no fucks will be given about the roll that 1% really plays.
Most of us put a higher premium on the cost of giving something up than we do on receiving an item in the first place.
If only the Rich would spend the same percentage of their income as the middle class, the world would be saved. They would even have to hire a team of people
because its too much work for 3 or 4 employees to spend that much money.
Aside from the economic and financial problems that effect this nation and the world on a daily basis. I think that this is a great program from the teaming up of two NON PROFIT organizations. To offer an incentive to the Buffalo Public School students which suffer from a 47.4% graduation rate is great and heartwarming to say the least.
I’m sure most are familiar with the problems that the BPS face and that the majority of Buffalo city residents rely on some form of social services. These kids don’t have much in the way of role models or proper examples to help show them that there is more to life than their surroundings. If this program inspires even one kid to tough it out and do better in school because they know they will get to go to college then it’s a success. Education is a proven way to help improve socio economic issues. How many times have we seen ghetto people on youtube videos and think my god that is some fucking ignorance. Only way to break the cycle is through education.
Speaking to the tax base and wealth disparity, this program is not income based. Any kid has access to it. If I were a parent now I might consider actually moving to Buffalo to help get my child an extra leg up into college. This program has the potential to increase the density of the city (which solves many of the problems of sprawl and aging infrastructure for the county), increase the tax base, help students and families that are part of the lower and middle class provide a future for their kids. Best part, it doesn’t cost the tax payer.
At 47.4% graduation rate I’m sure they won’t be paying to much out. However we will see in 2013 when program is officially available.
The thing is, the rich WON’T spend what they’re supposed to -just like you said. The middle class would spend what they’re supposed to, because they have to. That’s exactly why we need to change the tax code to help out the middle class, which is exactly what I’ve been saying.
I think you and I can both agree that this is what is going to happen.
The hardest part of being a teacher is having kids that have the potential to learn, but no drive or motivation to do so. I can’t force someone to be motivated, I can’t force parents to be better role models, I can’t babysit the kids throughout their education. I’m not a miracle worker, I’m a teacher.
This program is going to dump a ton of money to kids that, for the majority, will go to college for some bullshit degree because it was handed to them for free. They will abuse the system and get an “education” for what it’s worth.
I’m not suggesting dividing money up evenly, that’s moronic and would go hand in hand with the “lotto curse”. I do NOT believe in punishing those that work for what they earn AND if you didn’t earn it you won’t respect it. My issue is through government elitism we don’t even give the poor a chance to earn anything to respect. The elite lobbyists don’t EARN what they are rewarded with today, they bought their way into a system that isn’t supposed to be for sale (our government). Republicans focus on the rich, Democrats focus on the rich and some of the upper middle class. BOTH main parties neglect the poor INCLUDING THE WORKING POOR, on many levels.
I really can’t believe I’m bothering to type this because I know the mindset of the majority on here, as evident by the naysayers to Fade and my posts.
I will respond to the armed guard thing…that’s absurd. Crime is a byproduct of inequality. If you give equal opportunity, TRUE equal opportunity then crime would go down, not up. I’m not talking about hiring a token minority that is inferior in skill, I’m talking about elevating our society from the bottom up, starting with education.
I agree on the parenting issue another brought up, but why is there a parenting issue? It’s generational and alot of it has to do with education, or lack thereof. And again, as I suggested, the money we blow on entitlement programs should be geared towards EDUCATING not handing out. People are really missing the point and it’s worrisome because shit’s not that hard. Helping the poor benefits us ALL, including the middle class and wealthy, in the long haul. How can we even be debating this guys, what is the collective IQ in this thread? Jesus.
MEH. Rich are rich because of leverage, which includes human leverage. Rich benefit from an educated and large middle class. The middle class is shrinking because of things like globalization and flat wages when adjusted for inflation. Couple flat wages with rising fixed expenditures (housing and medical) and it shouldn’t be a surprise that middle class is being driven to poverty and debt.
They got full asking price from what I read. So again, the rich are rich because they don’t spend?

My bad, a 22 year old chick bought it for 88 mil.
As for the apartment purchase, that’s one example and from a culture known for outlandish material purchases by their oligarchical rich class after generations of government controlled business.
Have you ever had a commission job before? I write my paycheck…Nobody tells me what I make. If you like showing up to work knowing how much you are going to make no matter how hard you work, then great. That’s not me.
I wasn’t saying anyone was actually suggesting we actually divide up the money, I was just making a point about the people who are super motivated by money.
The armed gaurd thing was a joke.
I probably should not post in these threads because I really don’t want to take the time to write an essay for every post. lol
Is the argument that if some of these kids go to Buff State they will make it rich? The same people that want them to go to college are the same people saying the only way to get rich is to buy into it. I am confused, does a Buff State diploma have some secret powers to the elite?
And for the record; I have no problem with private money being spent. If these donors beleive in their heart that this investment has an efficient return then great, go for it.
