LOL double postage all over the forum this morning. But yeah, another good point made by Chris.
This. Why focus on college assistance if you know the pool of qualified applicants is near 0?
I find the “not my fucking problem” “life isn’t fair” attitudes funny, especially when people take that stance then bitch when they are a victim of crime. Guess what, life isn’t fair…remember? LOL
Triple post, lol.
I guess this just goes back to my theory that maybe college directly after high school isn’t the right idea for a lot of people.
Nothing wrong with working and figuring out the world then going…
Look at all the idiots protesting with 4 year degrees who get pissed because they don’t want to take 35k a year jobs
guys its a non-profit going after grant money trying to do some good. its not someone who has a ton of money and magically felt like helping the city school kids out.
could it be better used hiring hitmen to take out the corrupt officials and then rebuilding the school system from the ground up? Sure, but thats not what the grant is for.
Looks like I am late the party.
I just want to say that I am VERY happy to see a Private Sector Non-Profit taking on an issue like this. I am very glad that this program exists. I am also very glad to see that tax dollars are not being spent on this.
I don’t think it’s an age/maturity thing as much as the lack of real life preparation High School offers.
Going as far back as my HS years (early 90’s) I was saying to graduate you should be required to complete 4 internships in fields you think you want to study for in college. Oh well…“life’s not fair” so why bother trying to improve anything?
As expected, the quality of the discussion in this thread declined severely.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAH
Someone should quote this for him since he put me on ignore
lol. im only quoting this because his post left me with a “he seems like one of those guys that thinks hes better than everyone…i hate when people are like that”
lol juat?
I don’t get how you would draw that conclusion. Fade is suggesting society as a whole should try and help those on the bottom and try to get them up to the middle wherever possible. Having wide gaps in wealth and opportunity is what leads to crime and an overall social malice. How is advocating help for the less fortunate an arrogant stance???
Do any of the NYSpeed parents go to PTA or Board of education meetings?
I found out about this at a BOE meeting…

It was just a brief summary in which I was thinking to myself, that I would never hire any H.S kids to work with me…, but some sort of brief work study thing would be great for them.
We absolutely need support programs for low income families. Not ALL low income families though. Some people might benefit more from sterilization.
(there goes any chance of me running for public anything:D)
Why? Because the views are not in line with yours?
I think he meant arrogant in the sense that he’s right and no one else knows what they are talking about. Hence the reason I’m on the ignore list.
For once I actually agree with him too that we do need the FED. If you look at this country’s history we’ve had far more economic disasters without the FED than with it. I could dive a lot deeper into this but it will turn into a full blown essay.
By “advocating for help” though he is basically hinting at wealth redistribution. Anyone with half a brain can pick up on the fact that he’s alluding to socialistic economic concepts here. Obviously as we’ve found out in recent times capitalistic systems need certain regulations, that I won’t deny.
However, if we were to seize peoples assets and redistribute them would that really incentivize people to succeed in life?
The same goes for forcing people to spend large amounts of money that they earn. That clearly wouldn’t motivate people to do well either.
It’s just like the investment business you have going on. If really didn’t see gains, would you bother with the effort and hassle of doing it? The answer is probably not.
i was refering to the one quote. not his opinion as a whole.
besides, i may not make too much sense lately, ive been eating a massive amount of cookies lately and im not feeling too good from it. lol
Thanks for the well thought out reply.
Here’s where I get hung up…people that oppose “wealth re-distribution” live in a bubble it would seem. The wealth has over the past few decades been re-distributed…to the top. The stock and financial markets mainly exist to efficiently expedite this process. Our government facilitates the process, in exchange for campaign funds and future job opportunities once out of office. If there was never any major wealth re-distribution then fine and fair enough, but there HAS BEEN and it’s a produced some major issues.
Our government is not supposed to be on corporate payroll, they aren’t supposed to be for sale. Our government is the root cause of our inequality, the rich taking care of the rich. And most of the middle class is too satiated to even realize what’s taking place. 8/
Low incomes pose a serious problem, 2 actually. The first is enabling leeches that constantly abuse handout programs. The second is how some people try but simply can’t better themselves as they don’t have the proper tools from the get go.
One of these problems I feel we should work together to fix. The other I feel we should slam the door shut, lock it up and throw away the key. The problem is people are so cynical and greedy today that they assume everyone that earns a low income is lazy. This is a byproduct of being taken advantage of ourselves, by the elite wealthy and our government.
The middle class is shrinking, that’s undeniable. It’s shrinking because of rising fixed expenditures and inflation, BOTH of which the elite feel no impact from. I’m not proposing ripping off the rich and giving to the poor. I’m proposing closing tax loopholes and save havens. I’m proposing our government should do what’s equitable for ALL, not just taking care of the rich and setting up their post office future.

MMMM cookies. All good, I know the blood sugar spike causes some odd posts here as well.
Wealth re-distribution makes people think of this:
Its a no-go in this country.
Wow, this thread blew up.
My 2 cents… As long as this is a private charity then good for them. If they’re taking my money to give free college to kids who went to a shitty free grade school, then no thanks. We’ve already got so many overeducated underemployed people that they’re spilling over into public parks. The money would be better spent sending them to trade schools, for a variety of reasons…
Blah blah blah redistribution of wealth blah blah blah the poor have no excuse for being poor blah blah blah parenting blah blah they system is rigged by the rich for the rich blah blah blah beer.
