So I went biking there on Saturday. It’s a really fun place, but all we did was ride around and get lost. Anyone know where the trails are? I am not a hardcore mountain biker, but I am not bad(for a 30 year old ). My brother and I found a few nice trails, but nothing great.
Also, what is a good hydration pack to get? My little Trek water bottle lasted about 20 minutes and we were out there for 4 hours. I was looking online at the Camelbak Lobo and it seemed pretty nice. 100oz of water>20oz like my water bottle.
I spent Friday evening on the rails to trails out of Kittaning, then spent Saturday and Sunday going up and down hills at Deer Lakes Park, it was a good weekend :bigthumb:
The hydration pack I have is made by Nalgene. Really no different from any other except the mouth peice has a magnet that clips onto the sholder straps. So when your riding you can just grab the thing with your mouth and start drinking. Pretty sure this is the one I have, if you want a bigger reservoir you can buy them.
I know that whole park, if you ever want to go for a ride, I’d be glad to show you where everything is.
I have three or four camelbak’s, and I vote for 100 or more oz. Just make sure you getone with enough storage space for the little things you don’t want in your jersey. Other than that, size is the only drawback…some people don’t like bags on thier backs, some don’t mind. I am only 165lbs and I never even notice it there. I have one I don’t even use with new bladders if you would like to save a few bucks, or at least try one out.
i ride frick all the time. i’m down for a pittspeed mtb meet @ frick. the most fun single track trails are Iron grate, rollercoaster and pyramid. i think there are some directions that you can google.
If the weather is nice, I will be there next saturday morning around 9am. If anyone wants to meet up, just let me know where to park.
I am getting fat and need to do some cardio. My last trip to frick seemed like I rode uphill for 98% of the time. My legs were burning pretty damn good.
yea thats the one…the ones out at frick i have ridden on maybe three times but i was younger…if i remember correctly when you go down bottom of frick to where the people walk their dogs there is a turn that you can make off and go up past a pavillion…that is a longer trail i walked it not too long ago with my ex and decided to turn around because we had walked too far
My opinion of frick is that it has some very technical trails, but you do ride up whatever you just rode down. I’m not in the best of shape and it whips me hard. There are a lot better places out there IMO than frick if you like rolling single track and want to cover a lot of milage.
I have a cheapo Sette7 pack, 2 liter blatter with front and side pockets. Its good enough for my phone, wallet, my light battery pack (when night riding), and keys i guess. I’ve been 230lb for a while, so i have to cart my big ass around anyways, another 5-10lb doesn’t kill me.
Yep, doing the whole loop top-to-bottom via the coaster is 98% uphill. I fly down those trails so fast, it’s over in a minute or two…climb back up and do it all over again. I can’t make it this saturday, but the following week I’d be up for it.
I just got off a conference call at work and need to be in the office this saturday, but definately the following saturday. Or maybe even this sunday morning.
