Fried ECU pin 36 - problem and RESOLUTION

Hey

There have been numerous people having problems resulting in ECU damage. A lot of the issues have involved the trace to pin 36 burning up and possibly cooking the nearby diode.

To make a long story short - check your after market cold air intake. The OEM one is plastic and cannot short the MAF to ground . The after market ones are aluminum and CAN conduct to ground either by the upper rad support screw OR by touching the throttle body OR if you have a true cold air intake by the section that goes thru the car to the lower wheel liner area.

Some may say that this is not possible as you use rubber or silicone adaptors between the TB and MAF sensor and the true CAI extension. However the aluminum sections can touch each other inside the adaptors and will ground out the MAF even if the wiring and connectors are perfect as the OEM intake was all plastic.

If you have an aftermarket CAI and are having all kinds of weird electrical issues with lights, ECU, the 25A eng cont FL blowing check your CAI and the adaptors to make sure that there is no conductive contact between the MAF and the CAI to ground. It can be as simple as that.

We spent a fair bit of time chasing this issue and hope that this will help with yours.
