I dont have a ton of experiance with BMW’s…
but any maintenance shit ive done, Hardly anything costs much more than say another import like a nissan, some stuff is a bit more but not much, and some shit can be found even cheaper.
Newer bmw’s may cost a bit more, but an e36 is pretty easy/cheap to maintain… and unless the motor blows or some freak shit happens somewhere else a kid in highschool with a part time job at mickyd’s could afford to keep up on it
