FS: CA18DET Motorset

includes:

OEM SMIC
engine
tranny
full wiring harness
ca18det mafs
ecu

1 coilpack was replaced
turbo has been replaced
new rear main oil seal
has metal headgasket
4 coolant lines have been replaced
new thermostat

has had 3 oil changes (synthetic) in the past 2,500 km’s

engine was leakdown tested before purchase and had awsome results, and still runs beauty and pulls super hard for a ca

motor was run at 9 psi this season and 2,500 km’s were put on the car

reason for sale: im putting in a blacktop sr20

can include other goodies for more money

$1600

so everything that comes with the motorset… is that all you need to swap i into a 89-93 240sx? and do you by any chance know how many kilometres are on the engine in total?

i purchased it as a motorset…so no i dont know the milage

advantage of going with this motorset is its guarenteed to run and run well since it was already running in my car…

Another advantage is that it’s $1600! Crazy good price. The CA is not a shitty version of the SR, it’s the other way around. The engine makes up for the .2L less with a way nicer valvetrain, better rod/stroke ratio, etc…

seconded, i just don’t understand why people rip on it when it in fact has a much better overall design than the ka and sr. the fact that it’s old or has lower displacement aren’t very good excuses, but that’s just my opinion. :dunno:

good luck with the sale avery.

I think peoples primary concern (and I don’t share this concern, I love the CA) is that its a tad more expensive to make high horsepower with the CA.

People like the fact that they can pay more and drop the motor in and they’re already setup to put 230whp+ down just by cranking the boost… safely.

As far as I know, some money needs to be dropped in to the CA to pull that off.

Also, it seems like a lot of people think they’re goals are 400whp+ even though 90% of the SR’s on this board are stock, or stock with minor bolt-ons at best. Again, as far as I know the SR is a better platform for making high horsepower.

And if I remember correctly, it’s quite a bit lighter too isn’t it?

This is all just what I’ve gathered, I’d go CA before SR any day of the week. It’s the mini-RB. That’s why I just went w/ RB :-]

Enough babbling… good luck with the sale Avery. Someone in the westend grab this, we need more boosted cars these east end guys are making fun of our poor asses.

I’m eyeing this thing like a starving hobo actually…
Does anyone want to buy my 5 lug + R32 front and rear brakes + iquabob’s SS braided lines and Z32 TT front and rears with 90+% rubber?

EDIT: nvm the above… moment of weakness hahaha, I saved and looked too hard to find my Z goodies to part with them that quickly.

CA is lighter than the ka and sr aswell

ca is lighter than sr?? uhh… are you positive

CA18DET 128 kg 282 lbs
SR20DE 139 kg 306 lbs
SR20DET 149 kg 328 lbs
FJ20ET 166 kg 366 lbs
KA24DE 167 kg 368 lbs (estimated)

No worries John, there are 2 CA swaps being done over the winter right now and will be ready for next season. I think you know who im talking about.

Matt

if i had more money i def pick this up for a spare, once u drive CA’d 240’s u rly get to like the power band, i make strong power from like 3500-7500 at liek 10psi, once i get a bigger turbo it wont be so wide but still, its just a great motor, rly smooth

i ran this motor at 9 psi all summer

i was dead even with a 97 bmw m3 he had a passenger, i didnt. all the way up to 180 from 100 and bmw is geared for the highway mine isnt and i have a oem ca diff which is shorter gearing than usdm 240’s diffs

Wow. I don’t get how an iron blocked motor can weigh 46 lbs less than a similarly sized tin can.

It’s all in the valvetrain.

just because the ca had an iron block doesnt mean anything besides the fact thats its more durable.

in order to make the sr stronger it was designed with enough alloy to match the weight of the ca’s block.

plus the ca has a better head design
cam on lifter > rocker arms
8 intake runners > 4 intake runners

Just like the KA and RB Buddie…

Just like the KA and RB Buddie…

yea im aware… but ka and rb dont have individual runners for each intake valve (well the rb26 might but im not totally sure, i know it has itb’s)

The RB/KA have one runner for every two valves, along with the Euro CA.
