lately when i shut my car off and leave it for a certain period of time (ie cooling down for a certain period of time) it has trouble starting then sputters and dies a few times before i can get it going, even when i give it gas.
tends to happen when i leave it off for more than about 30 minutes. If i shut it off and run into a store like for a few minutes it starts fine, same with if i leave it overnight. Tends to be that when i leave it for some period in between i have the problem- for instance when i go to the gym its nearly always 1 hour and 15 mins dead on and thats when it ALWAYS happens
i dont know if its the time that causes it or something associated with it (ie the temperature of the engine)
anyone have any ideas? Plugs, fuel filter and O2 are new. Used intake cleaner recently. Im stumped and annoyed. Aside from this the engine seems “moody” cause sometimes when you boot it it just makes the same sound but feels like its not pulling, where as other times it goes like hell…
Even though it has been solved, I would like to ask you how would a dead cat mechanically cause the car not to start up? Please explain the reasoning behind it.

:dunno:
I’ve had it with at least one car, if not two. Apparently the catalytic converter was clogged/backed up somehow and supposedly went from robbing a little peak HP to causing terrible starting and post-starting up issues - must’ve somehow blocked the exhaust flow? Again, SUPPOSEDLY (mechanic)… :-k
That said, in retrospect, it probably was a dumb suggestion…
i FIXED it but now its back… the vacum line doesnt seem to have broken or anything this time but i replaced it anyhow…still wont start up after sitting for a certain period of time and the idle drops below 500 rpm when you brake quickly, especially after the revs were up, say over 3000 or so…
the line that had broken seems to go into the fuel pressure regulator- i wonder if the FPR itself could be causing this and need replacing…could that be possible or is there other things i should check first?
Welcome to my problem. I have been battling this for weeks and I am
finally taking it to a shop this weekend. Not taking it to Nissan for obvious
reasons.
