I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve seen people nearly hit officers on the side of the road, and how many times I have almost been hit on the side of the road.
I was up on a pole in Troy and had some asshole hit my van flying past me with cones and strobes on. If he was another few inches closer to me he would have hit my ladder and I would have been hanging on for my life 30 feet in the air.
It’s about time that this law was passed, although I’m sure people will be cited for this when they were unable to reduce speed or change lanes quick enough, at the fault of the officer. I’ve seen some people pulled over on the inside of turns, etc.
Def good law, I always do that anyway, especially on the highway b/c I know how nervracking it can be on the side of the road with cars flying by at 70+ inches away from hitting you, and there are plenty of people out there who just plain old suck at driving!
According to a NYSP that stopped a car I was riding in last year, this is already a law, and a misdemeanor at that, to not either slow 15mph, or move over a lane when passing a stopped emergency vehicle.
thats all fine and dandy making it a law…but how many times will it be ticketed (with out being reduced)…theres soo many effed up laws but no one enforces them…just another bs tactic used to pull over drivers and go “fishing” for other ticketable offense’s…im all for moving over and slowing down ( have been moving over and slowing down since i started driving)…but honestly will it be enforced???
This is so awesome. As an EMT/Firefighter, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve almost gotten killed by some fuckhead playing “how close to the ambulance can I get?” I can be in full turnouts with a traffic vest and they just derpity derp their way by at 70mph.
