I used to do a lot of admin. type stuff on my club’s board ( www.norcal-ls1.com ) and I know it’s a ton of work. One of my really good friends does all of it now (he’s always done most of it) and handles our hosting etc. We’re a bit bigger (3k+ users) but honestly I don’t think we really get 5 times the traffic even though we have 5 times the users. Our club has finally started paying him back for all the costs and I’ve seen some of the bills… we know you’re shellin’ out for us White-dawg. 
But honestly, if you chose to have a few sponsors and make a couple of bucks off the site then I say MORE POWER TO YOU. You deserve it for all the time/effort you put into the board. Just make sure they banners aren’t super annoying (no flashing banners for God’s sake), and it’d be cooler if they were related to cars (ie. cool shops etc.). It wouldn’t degrade the site at all.
