PITTspeed.com has always been for the users, and about the users. I kinda like it that way. The name was picked by the users, users have helped and donated to make this site exist and grow, users have worked on the site to make it what it is, users have helped promote the good word of PITTspeed, users have helped design the T-Shirts and logo that was made.
Now I am leaving a big decision up to the users. PITTspeed has been growing at a great rate and every month more and more people come to the site. I changed the server onces cause PITTspeed grew out of it, and now PITTspeed is somewhat growing out of the server. Where it stands now I can’t add the fun and useful servces I want since it would just kill the server. So I am asking for your help and guidance with what you want with the site.
Here are the options.
Option 1: A subscription service would be started. The subscription would be 2 dollars a month or 20 for the whole year. With this I could move PITTspeed to its own dedicated server that will support more concurrent users as well as many features that would be nice to add. The biggest thing I could add would be a Video Archive so that we could have a place to upload videos and then share them. I would also add an online chatroom, an article repository so users could write tech articles and host them with hopes and dreams of getting published somewhere. The list is never ending with what I can add pending I have the resources to do this.
Option 2: Leave everything exactly as it is.
The vote is up to you, and I leave PITTspeed in your hands.

i think you’d have to incorporate some way for new users to get into the site without donating… maybe have extra options open to premium members (those who donate)… otherwise i think it’d kill the expansion.
note, i would still not be profiting from the site at all… hosting is just that much…
i thought about that blackz28 and what i was going to do is 1st month free for new users
the point of pittspeed is not for me to make a profit, its to provide a kickass place for car enthusiasts to get together and BS and have fun. sometimes i get frustrated with the site but in the end I am proud of everything I learned with working on the site. and proud of the site
i think it would be great. Maybe give noobs a 3 month free deal but just the board… then with a new server we might be able to give donating users a better ‘quality’ of a board… like maybe, some personal space for uploading junk?, maybe a new revision to the e-garage? or some other options…
i know i wouldn’t have a problem donating what it takes to get this dedicated… we’d have a much better flowing site with less chance of downtime :bigok:
I’d have no problem paying $20, but that will shun a lot of n00bs away. Maybe do something like on OT where if you do a subscription, you get an avatar, sig and stuff like that. That way us l33t members can pay, and the stupid ass n00bs can stick around for as long as they like and we can harass them for not having avatars and stuff. Dont really know if thats feasable or not with the amt of $$ you’d have to pull together to make this happen… Either way, you know I’m gonna stick around.

Not accusing you whitey of anything but rumors are around that you got some pretty nice toys from money donated from the site (ie: digi cam) you might wanna kill that rumor before you ask us poor asses for money. but i could live with pittspeed the way it is. Is there a need for pittspeed to just keep gettin bigger and bigger? If it comes to that i guess if i wanna play i gotta fork up the $20 but its easy for the people that have 20 extra bucks to just say yeah when theres still a lot of us that bust their ass to pay rent, keep gas in teh tank, buy food. etc… you might lose a lot of members. I think if you are gonna ask for this money you should type a proposal sayin this is what its gonna cost to do this. you can’t tell me that if you get 200 members @ 20 bucks a year that 4000 is going towards running this site. even 100 members would be 2,000 dollars. I dunno what this stuff costs so let us know.
doing some brain storming i’ve come up with some ideas. I think there should be a treasurer(not closely tied in with the admin), a bank account, A summary of pittspeeds spending, surplus can be used to fund bbqs and other functions. You can’t expect a noob to put trust in this without seein some accounting of where the money is. Just some ideas i took from nationalized car clubs.
The camera was given to me by my father for a graduation gift to help me take better pictures for PITTspeed. (cutty your information is very incorrect if anyone needs proof I will gladly show you the receipt…)
pittspeed is not a club nor will it ever be a club.
Webhosting is very expensive. But i am sure most of you know that. I have been looking at plans that range from 250 to 1000 a month… times that by 12 you got 3000-12000 a year in web hosting.
I pay for a lot of this stuff out of my own pocket but its just not feasible anymore.
Cutty since you seem to think that you can run this better then me and just an all around know it all. And you think PS makes so much money, maybe you care to buy out PS and give it a try running it? PM me for details of my selling price.

Yea i seroiusly thought this site was done professionally. I was so impressed when i came in here. And even though alot of people pick on me haha. I would DEF. pay 20 $ to be part of this web-site. Whitey in my book you are the man. You get all the respect from me in the world. If it wasn’t for this site i probably woulda lost my marbles about even my girlfriend. But everyone pulled together to help. Now thats unity. Thanks guys for everything on here. And i’m looking forward to some more good times.

ill pay whatever, it is only money they make more of it everyday and for all the work whitey puts in i think whatever is profit he should keep and buy himself a few rounds
