Last week I accepted a battery engineering position at Johnson Controls Power Solutions in Milwaukee. I start January 16th. Yikes.
In late August I decided to get out of the PhD program at UB ChemE. I liked what I was doing day to day, but after spending way too many 7AM-9PM days on a project that I didn’t fully believe in, I chose to get out. So, over the course of the past few months I applied to a crazy number of jobs, took a handful of interviews, received 3 offers, and chose JCI because the position and department seemed like the best fit for me. Oh, and…wrote an 80 page thesis and am writing a journal article (in a more articulate way than this post). I defend my thesis in a little over a week. Crazy month.
I’m going to miss a lot about Buffalo, even the grain elevators. It’s great place to call home.
Congrats, now go design a nice light battery that can be reliably recharged in the same amount of time it takes to refill a gas powered car at the pump and become a billionaire.
Congrats man. I’ve actually heard good things about Milwaukee and I’ve always wanted to go. All of the breweries and tons of Polish people/restaurants. There’s nothing else a guy like me needs. lol
I think you’ll enjoy Milwaukee, I grew up about 30-45 mins from Downtown and I LOVE that city. There’s TONS to do on the waterfront, it’s home to festivals every weekend, and the Worlds Largest Music Festival every summer. It’s honestly what Buffalo could be if it pulled it’s head out of it’s ass and developed the waterfront (Although at a different scale as Milwaukee is much larger).
11 days, 12-13 stages right on the waterfront, end of June/early July always encompasses July 4th. I haven’t been in a few years, but am going to try and get back next summer to go.
Congrats. Entry level Phd’s are fun.
If you have any mechanical aptitude, you will do great w/respect to imported Phd’s.
(unless your job requires you to do modeling for 8-12 hours a day, and at home)
