So I wasn’t really looking for other jobs, but when a friend offered to pass my resume along I decided to see where the opportunity would take me.
I’ll be starting as a materials engineer for General Motors - Fuel Cell division, working primarily on materials development at the internal cell level. This aligns better with my skill set and aptitude than my current position. I’m pretty excited about the new opportunity, challenges and all.
GM - Fuel Cell was previously located in Honeoye Falls, but moved recently to GM’s Powertrain Headquarters in Pontiac. It is sad to leave Milwaukee, but being closer to Buffalo will be much more convenient. My partner is originally from the Detroit area so it’s a good move for him as well.
Milwaukee has been a really fantastic city, especially the Riverwest neighborhood. I’ve also learned everything I want to know about lead-acid batteries.
Now to deal with the final two awkward weeks at work and hopefully tie up a lot of loose ends.
Good luck with the move, sounds like you’re moving up in the world! I can’t say that Michigan would be on my move-to list unless the offer was beyond worth it.
I’m starting my job search January 1. We’ll see where I end up, I just know we’re done with UT!!!
