game on..... UPDATES** 9/24/08 video added

im gonna put all my updates in the first post for you so you dont have to scroll through all the pages looking for pictures.
so 07-02-08 i blew my engine:
reason i blew my engine was; i was over boosting at a track day. i was running 30+psi and didn’t have proper fuel to balance that amount of air. the vacuum line that controls the waste gate actuator slipped off during a trip around the dunnville track and i didn’t notice because i was concentrating on the track but, it turns out that i was more than maxing out my gauge for 2-3 laps… this did a number on my rods or rod bolts… not sure which one.
heres a video of me over boosting on the track… didnt notice it till we got off the track and the line was just dangling… tried to tape it when it happened before… and that failed as you can see in the video.

this is what i found in the street after the fact:

so then i used all the tools at my finger tips to get the engine out forklift ftw:

with the engine out you can see the carnage on the actual block:

So i bought another engine from Ohio

sent the engine off to a friend of a friend who just so happens to build engines. he took the two engines and used the new block from ohio and my head to make one complete engine. i also threw in some Eagle H beam rods. here are some pics of my new engine next to my old block.

a couple goodies i decided to get for the new motor setup!
a nice 3" o2 housing to go with my full 3" exhaust (no restriction ftw)

and a nicely cleaned up (ported) throttle body:

started bolting my turbo, alternator and coolant lines back up shitty cell pic (09-08-08):

today i got some more stuff bolted up! power steering pump, engine mount, etc.

made really good progress today 9/11/08!, got the transmission on and some motor mounts:

http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u160/rootk13/SRT4/Engine%20Build/P1010003-1.jpg
we put the engine on a skid:
http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u160/rootk13/SRT4/Engine%20Build/P1010004.jpg
then lifted the car and tugged the engine under the car. after that we had to lower the car and lift the engine from the ceiling to meet in the middle and bolt up all the motor mounts:

Then bolt up the motor mounts and drop the car back down!

all i have left is the slave cylinder which i have an issue with and the coldside ic pipe, fluids, spark plugs and the brake assembly just went out and bought all the fluids and sparkplugs… i would say about 2 hours of work left on it before i turn the key! sadly i dont have time to work on it again until wed. so ill post video of it if it runs… cross your fingers! lol.
the issue with the slave cylinder is that the piece that goes in the transmission and presses against the clutch fork has a piece of plastic between it. well i lost that piece of plastic, to order that plastic piece from the dealer it would cost roughly 180 bucks. so im thinking about making one up ghetto style… like a pen cap or somthing. not sure if that will work though. post ideas if you have any

Tough luck man, what was the mileage on your engine… did you advance the timing also?

Well… you know what they say, you gotta rebuild it bigger and better!

I bet it was from oil starvation. These motors dont’ really let loose otherwise. Sorry to hear it man! Maybe we can work something out, either with the car, or your old motor, or something!

50k on the clock…

Ouch!

Autopsy it yet? Cause of death?

How?!?!

Does this happen often on 50k motors?

well…this motor used to have just a wee bit of nitrous going through it…

Shouldn’t have mattered too much, I punish mine way worse.

It was probably a lean condition from the computer not learning the new WGA, maybe the stage 3 fuel pump couldn’t handle the fuel that a walbro 255 could have, or it was a damaged bearing from the track day that spun. Those are the two possibilities that I see.

:frowning: i know the feeling man…sucks real bad…i’ve already done it twice this year, once in each of my cars…

good luck getting it all back together and up and running again

dont worry i dont think im far behind u once i get this pig leaned out today!

build it

so im all excited cause i got my new wastegate in the mail the other day… so first thing this morning i bolt it up takes about 30 -45 min… clean the car up real nice. think its gonna be a great night at cruise night show off my new part… so i take it out of the garage. get goin down the street normal shifting, right around -5 vacume when i get onto a main road im thinking i should take it easy cause the engine is cold so i shift at 10 mph from first to second and right around 20mph the engine blows up oil spills all on the road and i shut her down… and push it off the road… lame start to a beautiful day…

blew under vacume… ugh

make sure it wasnt the oil plug.

Sounds like my buddy’s srt. Just went one day. Didn’t know why.

connecting rod broke or connecting rod bolt broke. that is our diagnosis

wow, sucks man.

seen it in person last week. sweet ride!

What are the symptoms? Where was the oil coming from? If it was blowing out the breather or whatever, it probably melted a piston or something along those lines. That makes me think that it was not oil starvation related.

nope pistons are fine… just a rod bolt broke… kinda weird
