GARAGE PROJECT, tokyo drift style :)

My future situation is looking like this,
I currently own one s13, which i’ve been working on for the winter, however its more of a clean up/ rebuild to get to know the car better project.
Towards fall of 2008 i plan to purchase an additional vehicle which i would like to keep focused as a solid track car.

Problem:
My only problem is i would rather not have neither s13s sitting on my driveway during the winter time or even summer (avoid theft or being broken into) but i only got a 2 car garage and my pops rolls in a 06’ maxima and that thing has dibs on one of the sides.

Solution:
A plan i’ve jotted out on a tissue while i was at subway was to pick up a low clearance lift and install it on one side of the garage. I beleive i’ve got the ceiling clearance by far to stack 2 lowered s13s in my garage, but are there any regulations against that sort of thing?

I did a quick google and found this on kijiji.
Anyone, shop owners, workers vouche for this lift/company? i dont want one of my cars crashing down on the other cuz this the lift was made of tin foil.

Thats all for now, if i go through with the project i’ll be sure to keep a writeup of the build process.

PEACE SON

yea ive been wondering about those too!
i just think they’re cool and want one!..
oil changes would be made easy, lots of jobs would actually…
except changing tires.
im gonna go check one out this weekend… ill let you know what i find out!

I’m still working on my hoist project for my single car garage, hopefully I’ll have it up and running this spring… I never considered getting a permit to do this, i’m just doing it.

How will the garage door be able to open with the car on top?

good question.
im measuring all angles and space in my garage, to avoid any interuption with the hoist as well as the garage door operation.

make sure you have EVERY single detail man.
this sounds like a sick idea
but we wouldnt want one car crashing down on the other.

but we wouldnt want one car crashing down on the other.

or would we? good extra parts :stuck_out_tongue:

lol, XKR + MR2 in same garage.

instead u should just get barn doors for ur garage

I know of a local guy with a lift like that. It is a nice piece. I know its the same one because of the horizontal plates, I was standing right under it.

i was thinking about it, possibly the best way to have both cars fit is to change the rails that the garage door follow in the raised position.

keep us posted with your project. I wanna do something similar, got my inspiration from a super ballin’ member on zilvia… check out his garage… sooo awesome, and his car ain’t to shabby either… haha

Jon

sorry but i hate drive on lifts. get a 2post 4 point lift, things are SOOOO much better. and you actualy have room to work, look how cramed that place is. i dont like lol

yea i agree in terms of lifts for working on cars, but i think in this situation it’s for storage… lol cause people are talking about parking a car underneath the hoist as well.

Jon

wa’pow
thanks for the post Jlee, really gives me more inspiration.

hey fastback, im with you on the whole hoist thing, however the storage is going to be an issue and thus i want a hoist that i could work on the car yet store it at the same time.

pro… nice one paul. ill be at your house for sure:P

aren’t 2 post systems cheaper??

you can check them out on carquest

this is something I’d measure 83 times first, car meeting ceiling would not be good. And trust me, I’ve recently had a ceiling on my car.

aren’t 2 post systems cheaper??

well if he is storing cars i doubt he would want to risk having it fail so why not pay more and buy a four post system?

agreed.
if im doing this im doing it right. not taking chances. i’ll let everyone know how it goes.

but getting back on topic, since there has been this work done before im assuming i don’t need a permit and what not?
