Hello guys, the gas gauge on my s13 froze somewhere in the middle, and won’t go down when tank empties, and won’t go up when filled up. I just wonder where I should start, can there be any problem with the hud panel, or it’s at the fuel sending unit. Any input appreciated.
unplug cluster
find wire that supplys voltage to fuel gauge
with key to on position measure voltage coming from that wire
put some gas in the tank
measure voltage again
If voltage changed then the floater inside the tank is doing its job correctly. Next step would be hitting the cluster.
Its prob the float
Not sure but thats where i would start
Remove seats in rear and have a look might be caught on the bath
Thing
s13…no need to remove seats…lift up carpet 4 ten mill’s…pull out the sending unit have a look
Thanks guys, I think if the display arrow shows some level, it’s probably the float then. But at the same time, I pulled out the sending unit recently, the float was moving easily. If the contact was lost somewhere, would the gauge show anything, or it would be at “0”?
ya sorry been awhile subaru is under seats…
in trunk
If that happened the gauge would probably freeze at whatever position it was at since it does that when you turn off the car.
