Fuel Guage

Hi,

Can anyone tell me where I can check if my fuel guage is working properly. I used about 1/8 of a tank a couple of days ago (roughly 150kms), but today the guage read a full tank.

Thanx,
Larry

240sx fule gauges seem to have a problem lol. It usualy has to do with the float in the tank. Basicly the car takes a reading from the float that tells the gauge how full the tank is. So if you car is on a incline of in a corner it will effect the gauge. If you want to know how much gas you have just take a look while on a flat peice of roadway.

ya S13 gauges are shit, ide fill up my car with like a tank of 94 and drive 50 km and it would be like

Oh no you have used up 1/2 tank of gas!

and i would be like

somthing is wrong, oh yes somthing is wrong.

then i found out it was like this on all s13s.

  1.

Acutally, it’s just been sittin in my garage, and the parking lot of work. Usually with my car, if I’ve been on a incline/decline it will have a false reading, but usually corrects itself in I would say 10-15 minutes. It’s just weird, cause it’s been stuck at full tank for a while now.

My s13’s gauge has been ok.

My only complaint is the ‘low gas’ light

I think it comes on when you are OUT of gas

As in:

Hey are you wondering why your car isn’t running? No gas fool.

Ya ive had the gauge pinned on the stopper and the light didnt come on. Also is it just my car or does it take like 10 min for the gas gauge to fill up after you fill the car up?

On my 95 I find when making a right hand turn the gauge gets higher and left makes it lower (so when i want to be happy I make a right lol). After filling it the gauge dose go up but not super fast the last 1/4 seems to take the longest. Realy its not going to ever be perfect it just supposed to give you a good idea of how much you have.

I know this is sort of an old thread, but i didnt want to start a new thread on the same subject. But yesterday I threw in 20 bucks of gas and needle was at half-full. That was in North York, drove to my house. Then went to work and back (only 3k total distance). Now its on empty.

So I threw in another 15 bucks of gas earlier today. The needle moved a hair above E. So I’m pretty sure the gauge is acting up.

So heres what I want to know, how can I fix this. Or is it too much trouble for what its worth?

new sending unit

and why did you bring back a thread from 2004?

Every now and then i’ll have like 1/2 - 5/8 of a tank and soon as i slide around a corner etc… and straighten out she’ll pop to 3/4

I was with S13GG once and was like running outta gas… i did a donut to turn around and she poped up huge…

Tanks are real weird in these S13s

1st thing… a sending unit from nissan is like $500 so hopefully you can find a decent one used

2nd… i didnt notice this was an old thread before i posted or I wouldnt have…

But I have never had that kind of problem before. Like I know what you mean with the needle reading up and down a bit. But I mean it was at like 1/2 full and then it was at E like 30-40 kms after.

Hmm… maybe I should fill the tank completely and see what happens.

^^^ does you gauge work right now ?

or is the needle under the E and __ line ?

if so… you lost the ground on your sending unit “happened to me when i put my walbro in” it broke 2 days later and I had to fix her up

Ya mine is messed to I think,

I just drove from burlington to oakville mississauga and it seems I used almost a quarter tank, put in 30 yesterday almost at full line and now I am just brimming the quarter tank.

if you pay 500 dollars for a sending unit for a 240 you should end your car career.

thanks for the asshole attitude after i gave you the answer to your problem. all respect = lost.

Easy now, I was the one that brought back the old thread.

Now heres a little update. I went to CT to pick up something and on the way there the needle was a bit above E. When I got in my car afterwards to leave, it was way below E. Then I filled her up, and the gauge was at the 1/4 mark. So that pretty much assured me that it was the guage and not a gas consumption issue.

So, Jedi you’re saying the ground on the sending unit may be the problem? Its not stuck at E, it just doesnt read correctly.

thanks for the bumhole attitude after i gave you the answer to your problem. all respect = lost.[/quote]

1st i never said i paid 500 for a sending unit… 2nd i didnt need an aswer as i wasnt looking for one as i dont have a fuel problem and 3rdly i didnt even bring this thread back

as for the bumhole attitude… i think that would be directed towards yourself since i dont see how i could care whether you’ve lost respect for me considering i dont even know you, hah.

No if the needle does not read period and just sits way under the E that it can be cause of loosing ground.

as DTS said your sending unit itself is done and you need a new one

check the wires at the fuel sending unit, often everything rusts and messes it up, also if you did a walbro swap you might have messed up the wiring
