Gas

Get an axe and start burning wood.

Actually my dad uses an outdoor wood furnace. Shit loads cheaper than oil and it heats the whole house inlcuding hot water. The only thing my dad pays for is electricity. He gets most of his wood from our property which is 175 acres but when he’s lazy he will order it in huge numbers and it will last a whole year for the price of oil that would only last half a winter.

Does your house smell like a campfire at all? Just wondering… that might be nice actually.

i live in rotterdam i got national grid :headbang

I like wood, but I will make more working the job I do, than I will splitting wood… So, I’ll have to keep the grid alive myself. A friend of mine runs a chimney company and business has never been better. So , not all businesses crash in a slow economy!

:nod watched that as well as on FOX23 news. I think it will stay like this for a while. Gas was $3.10 in guildrland yesterday and hope it gets lower ;D

:haha sorry, had to take that outta context

don’t be dumb, propane is less efficient to burn than oil, you get less BTU’s per unit. Also it is a bi-product of oil production, so as oil prices rise propane goes up as well. You’re not doing yourself any favors with propane.

I was looking at $5500 in oil for the year. Un-Fucking-Acceptable.

Yes it is expensive. But my fuel for the whole year is $1500 when I was looking at $5500. It’ll pay for itself in 2 years. I’ll take those numbers anyday.

Yea this isn’t a pellet stove. It’s a pellet boiler. 130,000 BTUs. Heats the hot water baseboard / radiator the same as my oil unit would. Probably much better. You can do DHW with it but i chose a tankless electric hot water heater instead. Check my other thread. Anyway the boiler isn’t constant burn and has electronic ignition… only comes on when the temp in the boiler drops below a set #. Same as an oil furnace in that respect. You do have to fill the hopper. It has a 200lb capacity which is equal to 4 or 5 bags of pellets depending on the size of the bag. You also have to clean it out every couple of months and dispose of the ash. The ash bin is big enough to not need to be emptied for 2-3 tons of burned pellets. I will post pics etc when it gets here and is installed and working.

whats your point i live ~2 miles away and have national grid. BUT i use my fireplace more than anything. an yes nicole since out couch is near the fireplace it smells like a campfire somewhat.

im liking that its cheap now but in the end we know it will go back up, and who cares anyway?? we cant do a thing about it!!! be happy while it last and in the end i dont care if gas is 10 dollars a gallon im still gonna drive around wasting gas in a 600 plus hp car!!

I totally agree!!! yeah!! all day!!!
