Eric, thanks for the comment, im sure it is easier to see Yours “ergonomically” but my personal opinion is my own. I think that mine WILL look o.e.m, as yours you take the consequence of losing that vent, as i still keep my deck. You have to remember our S13 dashes are on quite a slope, so it wont be to hard to see the gauges less than 10" below where yours are…
I look forward to it. I forgot to mention that although the vent is lost, we must remember who we designed these pods for and that is for the racer (AX, Drift, Circuit) where the cold air will likely be coming out of the open window Again, this gauge pod is not a bling item.
When we were considering the design for this pod (and it’s just one pod), we wanted to ensure that our customers were able to have a safe, clear view of their gauges. We all know that driving in the GTA is a challenge enough without having to look away from the road for too long.
In any event, judging from what you’ve shown so far with your pod, it looks very trick.
both designs are nice and well done, i personally like the 515 for teh same reasons as dip, and its really not that bait cause the only time a cop will notice it is if he has his head on your window, and at which time your probably already screwed
LOL I cannot believe you asked that. Sorry, look at yours, you have a deck, and gauge holder, i have a slot below if u didnt see, thats where it will be at G.[/quote] You might have some trouble removing your CD’s in 1st, 3rd and 5th gear. Have you checked to see if it works?
You chopped your shifter? Was this a shortshifter that you chopped or your stock shifter? Please tell me you didn’t just hack your stock shifter apart. Next thing you’ll be doing a FAQ on how to make your own coil over sleeves out of bondo LMAO  Seriously most guys on SON are running a stock height shifter, be it stock, OBX, Megan, B&M etc. so other than you no one will be able to get their CD’s out if they use your gauge pod.
The reason I like the 5one5 unit is because the pods are slightly angled towards the driver. It’s very subtle yet at the same time very effective I’m sure. Plus, who really needs that vent? The s13 is wicked cuz it has those two flip-up vents right in front of the driver; passenger has his own vent… not to mention I usually run the heat on defrost/feet anyway.
Anyway, you can’t really compare both units without -at the very least- sitting in the car looking at each one. Or, say, if you need room fore more than 3 gauges, you can combine both products for super-high feedback w/ an oem appearance. BTW does anyone have a 5one5 pod who’s comin to the gokart meet?
I don’t have a direct pic of my boost gauge but in this pic you can see how I mounted it where the hand dryer thingies are.
I really like it there, it’s easy to see without having to take your eyes completely off the road and it’s still pretty subtle.
I’m not sure what other guages I’m going to install, probably an oil temp or a more accurate water temp, I’ll put it in the opposite hand dryer vent location.
I just took the vent out, removed the little duct behind it and the guage’s two mounting bolts fit right inside! Just had to trim a little plastic from inside so I can get a nut on tight.
I could go back to stock and you’d never know it had ever been there.

Haha bomex, I had a OBX short shifter, didn’t like it, got a megan short shifter now, and yes i cut it, its my car, i dont like the knob being so high.
I cut it 3inches, its still a decent height. My personal preference, thats all.
I don’t think the 5one5 are cop bait. Cops watch for the pillar mounted ones because they’re easy to see. I doubt it’s possible for a cop to see your vent unless you’re already in deep shit. Plus, I hate having air blown in my face and always have it either on window defog/defrost or legs. That and having them nicely visible is always a good thing. I dunno, it’s personal preference just like everyone said, and I prefer the 5one5.
The vent is useless in the S13. In the winter you need it on defogger or
foot and defogger or your windows will fog up. In the summer it would be
good for A/C but barely anyone has working A/C anymore. Its easier to
see there, but you wouldn’t notice unless you were looking for it.
I need room for more gauges, I may just use Brandon’s idea.
I agree with this, I never use my top vents, its always defrost/foot.
My A/C is all out, so i dont have that either. its a personal preferance, im going to be using more than 3 gauges as well. i might end up using the pillar or vent then…

Same. So when I had my dash out I gutted all the duct work and vents for everything except defrost and feet; and I’m putting my gauges where the face vents would normally go. It looks cleaner that way anyways I think, if done right.
i have gauges mounted where the heat controls were, boost control and safc mounted in the din panels, and more gauges still to fit… as well as my turbo timer… so im at a loss for space… lol
In case you guys don’t know what our gauge pod looks like, here are a few snaps. As you can see, the design is very subtle, functional and ergonomic. If you are especially anal about having it look completely OEM, you can paint the pod whatever colour you like and even include matching texture (if you are good at doing stuff like that). Or you can leave it in its original black gelcoat.
I have 3 mounted where heater vent is, and 3 on the top right hand side of the dash above the gauge cluster, like if you were to put your hands on the steering wheel @ 10 and 2, it is right above your right hand. (take a second to think about that…it makes sence). I love this set up, although I must clean up my dash a bit, it is really clear to see everything that is going on, and I still have double decks, heater controlls etc…
