Just wondering if there is any general/common problems to look out for on the 04-05 sti.
yeah,the previous driver
hahaha
newmans struts knocked all the time. he said it was like that new. also… the first year they made them they didnt come with radios lol.
i thought u wanted an evo?
BOOOOOO What happened to the tegger?
i havent had any problems with my car yet. i had a leaky cam seal which was fixed under warranty. the boxer engine has a slight tick which from what i read on nasioc and iwsti is normal and nothing to worry about. other then that i have no complaints. i love the car and i dont regret one second of buying it.
Changed my mind
Time for a change
Dang man…turbo addiction must run in the family  tho both are nice, drive them both, you might like one more than the other
Well I do have the snky snky saab :snky:
Yea, I plan on driving both, since like you said i might prefer one over the other, but after doing some research it looks like the STi would be a better choice due to the evo’s clutch/5th gear synchro/firewall recall.
out of curiousity, have you driven both? I personally like the STi, just because its much more civilized…
No I have not, I haven’t driven either, but thats what i’ve been reading/hearing. The STi is a much better option for a daily driving it, which i plan on using it for.
i think RobHimself said something like that, too…

I sure did, and it was a leaking strut was replaced the next day. As far as issues that i have had. There is an oil consumption issue that supposedly it is normal to go through a qt of oil in 1000 miles when driving it kinda hard. I don’t consider what i do driving it hard but whatever. The car is vaery fun and while an evo has better suspension and you can mod it a hell of alot easier an sti coming down the road with exhaust sounds a shitload meaner. Plus you can always tell the domestic guys that you have more displacement!
Also im always willing to let people drive it as long as they arent driving like a penis. If you catch me at a meet feel free to ask. I haven’t been to an nyspeed meet yet though…
Thats about it.
Quick tip: If you find a car you are interested in on a forum, you can easily find out what kind of care and consideration, ie. to breaking in, driving habits, maintenance, the previous owner has bestowed on the car by searching threads started by them and going to the earliest date
<3 STI
strut knocking, annoying but you get used to it
i have the small ticking under the hood also, no biggie imo
and yes, i go though 1 qt per oil change usually, but then again I drive the car pretty hard most of the time
all in all a great car though
BTW the strut knocking in some cases can be fixed by jacking the car up and setting it down a few times to work the strut. Give that a try if you guys are still having the issue.
I think the STi is a much more livable daily. I do love Evo’s but from an option standpoint, the STi wins.
yea I think mine are beyond that lol, i’ve had the car up and down many many times, doesn’t seem to help at all
