looking good.
Haven’t touched this in a month, I ordered ARP’s and the appropriate cam gear for the 3 bolt cam using the ‘new’ style engine management triggers… with overnight shipping… they showed up 28 days later. Needless to say I know one vendor in Texas I’ll never deal with again. Anyway, started putting the motor together today, and have another batch of prototype stuff on the way. All of this stuff should be final revisions so I’m hoping to have them in production in the next few weeks. Should allow for massive steering angle.
Unfortunately, the company that is producing the e46 LS parts keeps bumping their schedule back on releasing stuff, so it looks like I’m going to have to make motor mounts and headers again, not what I wanted to do, but oh well.
Hmm TSP or Thunder, if it’s TSP I can’t say I’m surprised.
Neither
I love your builds, they’re always something interesting. With e46 prices going down and there being so many of them I bet soon there’ll be a decent demand for those parts too.
im digging all this custom fab, but this whole ls swapping into everything is getting kinda old.
u watch formula D and all u hear is V8’s, when u watch D1 most of the cars still run what the car came with. plus i just love the sound of fully spooled turbos
I don’t want to get into a FD vs D1 debate, because I really don’t give a fuck what they are doing over there. But most of those cars are NOT running what they originally came with. I don’t care if it’s I4, V6, V8, V10, V12 or other. As long as it makes power and is fun to drive.
Fggt.
Stop going into V8 build threads and complaining about people swapping in V8s.
Looking great
I think when you’re building a race car, you probably stop caring about what is the popular/cool thing to do, and worry more about what is going to create the best results on the track, as well as what is going to be reliable and ready to go when race days come along. If you’ve got the resources, why not just make it as rock solid as can be?
Where are you looking to get LS/e46 swap parts from?
Vorshlag is releasing their stuff at some point, but their time table doesn’t look like it is going to work for me. They are saying motor mounts sometime next month and headers maybe in March. I’m sure they are making a fantastic kit, I just can’t wait that long as their product has already been delayed longer than I would have liked. They area busy shop, so it’s understandable, just doesn’t work for me.
stop driving a fggt miata! that is all not going to clutter this up
still cant wait to see your custom suspension setup !
why not just make your own motor mounts to set the motor where you want it and then have your own headers made up to match the performance characteristics of the motors power and your needs for driving the car, instead of using an average all around setup?
i just say this because the majority of swap motor mounts and headers i see for any car ive looked at, i wasnt too impressed with. plus you have an issue with time.
It’s pretty hard to fuck up LS components, in terms of “swap” stuff. I already have to go custom trans mount, driveshaft, exhaust, fuel, wiring. So I was hoping to get at least a couple “off the shelf” parts. Sadly, not going to happen. Vorshlag makes their stuff specifically for e36 (and soon e46), and the quality looks great.
However, the time table just isn’t going to work for me. After doing motor mounts and headers on the VK/350z, I wasn’t a fan of the process, that’s mostly why I wanted to avoid it. The Vorshlag e46 stuff puts the motor right where I want it too, so that’s not really a concern (they are track car guys too).

Looks like that LS1 Sits nice and low in there
Can you elaborate on this a bit?
double post
It’s a pain in the dick making motor mounts and headers.
